Bumble Bees & Butterflies

From Ohio, to North Carolina, to our forever in South Carolina #GoCocks

"Y'all... when I tell you I tried online dating before it was "cool", it is no joke. It was EXHAUSTING and heart breaking. But man oh man am I glad I gave it another shot. I swiped right on Bumble and found this sweet southern man that makes me laugh every day. Dougie, I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with you. The weekend we met was also my 34th birthday weekend - also my first birthday without my mom and first in Charlotte, NC. It was emotional to say the least. Doug showed up at Gin Mill in South End to meet up with me and a few friends after he cancelled our dinner plans for our first date. I was immediately drawn to the South Carolina accent. We stayed up until 4am talking and learning about each other and we both knew this was something special. Losing a parent is something we have in common, and although we wish we didn't, it's such a comfort to know we never have to explain how some holidays feel or how some memories hit different. The Sunday after we met, I was walking out of church with a friend (shout out Adam Neff!) and I was thinking about my mom, my birthday, and Doug. Adam asked me how the rest of our night went Friday and said that he liked Doug - not so much the birthday shots he bought us, but still - I liked knowing he did well with my pals. As I started to talk about how I just had this feeling that this might be it, a large monarch butterfly flew right in front of my face. THAT was my sign from my mom. She sends me butterflies all the time. Fast forward to our 3rd date - he made me dinner at his house. Jersey and Adler were meeting for the first time (that's another story for another time) and I was going to get a glimpse into his cooking. Little did I know that I'd be getting a home cooked meal pretty much every night for the next 4 years. And in case you're wondering - no I do not cook for him. I'm not allowed in his kitchen. LOL! Anyway, we're sitting on his back porch and laughing and just enjoying each other's company and 3 butterflies started hovering over us. He said "I guess my dad and your mom are sending us signs" - and that's all it took. I was a goner. He takes care of me, and I keep him on his toes. He cooks for me, and I let him. :) He loved Jersey just as much as I did, and she absolutely adored him. He sets my soul at ease, and I push him outside of his comfort zone on a daily basis. He drives 5 MPH under the speed limit, and I got 2 speeding tickets in one weekend. I'm his wild animal and he's a bit of a scaredy cat. Thank you for loving me, Douglas. Cheers to our forever. XO, Jenni"
