We met for our first date after matching on Upward at Grindstone Coffeology in Huntington, WV. For a few hours, we drank our coffee and talked about typical first-date things. We actually ended up having to leave because Grindstone was closing! Cameron asked Doni to go on a second date, which she accepted immediately because she knew he was someone special. After the date, the texting became even more frequent and Doni had an inkling that Cameron could be the one. Now, a few months later, here we are!
We went to Columbus, Ohio for the weekend to celebrate Doni’s 30th birthday. On Friday, we went to a concert with Noelle (who is the Matron of Honor!) and her husband Michael. The plan for Saturday was to go to brunch and the zoo. Cameron asked if Doni would want to stop at Ohio Stadium on the way to brunch because we had taken a picture there our first time in Columbus. This was the point where Doni got a little suspicious but didn’t want to get her hopes up. We made our way to the stadium to find that George Strait was in town and every entrance to the stadium was blocked off. Cameron went straight into ulterior planning mode and tried to decide where the proposal would happen. The four of us made it to Brekkie Shak and as we were eating Cameron was on his phone the whole time (which he never does), so Doni became a little more suspicious. As we were leaving brunch, Cameron asked to walk to a little park beside Brekkie, and Noelle and Michael said “Bye!” We walked for a little bit and Cameron sat us down and started talking and at that point, Doni knew for sure what was happening. Cameron got down on one knee and asked Doni to marry him, to which Doni immediately replied “YES, BABE!” Noelle and Michael had taken pictures and videos (which we are grateful for) and celebrated together for a few minutes! We then went to Columbus Zoo to celebrate the engagement and the start of our new journey together.
