This one of DJ's favorite field trip spots growing up and a must see for any history buffs. The museum includes many exhibits highlighting some of America's most innovative minds. You can even step inside the bus in which Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat. Time and weather permitting, we suggest you also explore Greenfield Village. Step back in time at the village where you can explore 300 years of American perseverance, like the lab where Thomas Edison had his lightbulb moment.
The DIA has one of the largest and most significant art collections in the United States. Located in Midtown Detroit, The Detroit Institute of Arts is a can't miss for our art enthusiast guests. The museum encompasses 658,000 square feet with more than 100 galleries, a reference library, a conservation laboratory, and is a popular gathering place during Friday Night Live events.
The Detroit Zoo is another great place to explore, especially if you have the little ones in tow. The Mecsey family spent much time here many years ago. While The Detroit Zoo is not home to DJ's favorite, Fiona the Hippo, there are still many incredible exhibits including Polar Bears and Penguins.
If you’re looking for something fun for the entire family, Great Lakes Crossing is your place! Attractions include SEA LIFE Michigan Aquarium, LEGOLAND Discovery Center Michigan, Rainforest Cafe and Bass Pro Shops (if Derrick is missing, check here first).
We encourage you to soak in the summer sunshine at Detroit's Eastern Market. It is the largest open-air flowerbed market and the largest historic public market district in the United States. More than 150 food and specialty businesses are located within the market district selling all types of goods including produce, meat, spices, jams, flowers, and poultry.
If you know the bride, you know pizza is a staple in her diet. We suggest you indulge yourself in the classic Detroit Style pizza at one of the many Buddy's Pizza locations throughout metro Detroit. You can also check out a Mecsey family favorite, Loui's Pizza. It's nothing fancy but sure is delicious!
