Our wedding will take place during a Catholic Mass. In any Catholic Mass, there are several points where the congregation may pray or sing together. Non-Catholic guests are welcome to participate or not participate at these times, please engage as you feel comfortable! All are welcome at this celebration of our love.
Catholics believe that the simple bread and wine presented on the altar during a Mass become the living, real presence of Jesus--his body, blood, soul, and divinity. To receive communion is to receive the body of Christ. If you’re not a practicing Catholic, please do not receive communion. We encourage you to come forward to receive a blessing; please cross your arms over your chest to indicate that you are not receiving communion. You’re also welcome to simply stay in your seat during this time.
A regular Catholic Mass typically lasts about one hour. The first half, called the Liturgy of the Word, includes introductory prayers, readings from Scripture, and a reflection from the priest. The second half, called the Liturgy of the Eucharist, includes the celebration and sharing of the Body of Christ with the addition of prayers and songs. Because our ceremony is within the context of a nuptial mass, you can expect it to be around 90 minutes.
We kindly ask that during the ceremony you refrain from taking any photos or videos. We desire to keep an atmosphere of reverence during the Mass, and have hired a professional photographer to help us capture the memories of our special day.
We invite you to wear whatever you feel most comfortable in; feel free to express your personal style! While there's no dress code, we kindly ask that you keep in mind the sacred setting of the church and choose attire that is respectful for this joyous occasion.
