In college, everyone is a friend. The person in class next to you? A friend. The person you're sharing the bathroom with at a frat party? A friend. The person who just swiped you into the cafeteria? Probably your best friend. Freshman year of college got off to a great start, socializing with high school buddies made it comfortable enough to venture out into all the new places, and all the odd places (a.k.a the Livingston Quads). Thanks to the stew pot commonly known as Rutgers, I was lucky enough to visit my friend's dorm room, where I would eventually meet and (apparently) annoy his roommate. From snarky comments and pranks, to near-death car rides, a whole year went by until I decided to stay true to my word: I had vowed to take this boy away from his computer long enough to see the sunlight. My method was to use the most millennial way to reach out before DMs, Facebook Messenger. The summer after freshman year (and in true Rutgers fashion), we were both enrolled in summer school. The added proximity allowed us to randomly meet up to talk and eat and, eventually, see each other as more than just the annoying roommate/roommate's friend. From then on, it was a true college "romance," followed by missed innuendos, one too many Cheetah nights, tons of TLC shows, and the ongoing debate on which house/apartment was more fun. Break-ups and make-ups, mini-vacations, and inductions into each other's friend groups only made our bond grow stronger, and our lives become more intertwined. Even after different graduating classes, multiple job relocations, tons of cat and chinchilla adoptions, it came as no surprise that after a short 5 year relationship - we finally became engaged! What might have been a surprise, however, probably was our delay with the actual wedding process. Now, after a short (and totally normal) 6 year engagement, we are finally ready to make it official and upgrade our insurance policies from "domestic partnership" to “Married”. We are beyond excited to share this special day with our closest friends and family, and share our vows back where it all began over 12 years ago - on the banks of the Raritan River at Rutgers University.
