Ken was born and raised in Hawaii, coming from a long family line of military service. He joined the military at 18, serving in the U.S. Army for 20 years. Following retirement, he moved to Dallas, the home of his favorite football team, the Cowboys. People say he is as steady and strong as they come with the most tender and generous heart. Due to Ken's years in the military and loosing his father he has learned to savor life, recognizing it as a precious and brief gift.

Desiree faced an early challenging path, her experiences shaped her to be strong and resilient. She discovered her faith at 18 which turned her world around. Desiree grew in her faith under Joel Osteen Ministries. She graduated from Lakewood’s lay minister program in 2016 and for eighth consecutive years, she has volunteered as a women's ministry leader, passionately teaching Sunday classes. People describe her as a compassionate and fiercely independent spirit, who would be there in a heartbeat if you needed her.

Ken and Desiree's love story began when they both worked at Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas. Before joining the church staff, Ken lived in Dallas and prayed to find a wife who was devoted to God, beautiful, kind, and, as an added bonus, even slim and blonde. Out of nowhere, he received an offer to work at Lakewood Church. Taking it as a sign from God, he moved to Houston. Desiree wasn’t interested in dating at the time; in fact, she was fiercely avoiding romantic relationships. Then she saw Ken. Desiree was captivated by Ken's gentle spirit and admired his character. They worked closely together, and Desiree thought he was too good to be true. Curious about Ken, Desiree decided to do some online sleuthing. She stumbled upon his LinkedIn profile, clicking it multiple times, unknowingly sending him notifications. So Ken sent her a connection invite. This simple act of fate set their love story in motion. Unaware of the notifications he was receiving, Desiree thought, "Wow, he must be into me." Ken wanted to ask Desiree out, but his friends back home said it might interfere with their working relationship, so he better not. Desiree had been on staff at the church for over ten years, deeply devoted.
