Our Story

First Comes Friends Then Comes Marriage

The year was 2004, Derrick was fresh out of high school while Bethany was still an upperclassman at a small county school just outside of Sidney where Derrick would frequently attend the sporting events of mutual friends. This is where he spotted a certain varsity cheerleader, and this is where our story began. Through parties and late-night phone calls we both knew we had something special. For us, you could always count on a good laugh and a good friend. We eventually went our separate ways focusing on what we call life, until one night our paths crossed again. It had been several years since we had run into one another, but as fate would have it, there we were. All it took was a cold drink, a one hit wonder, and a dance floor. Life had given us both ups and downs at that point, but we had our friendship to lean on! Finally, our small talk turned into a first date, which turned into the rest of our lives. We will both forever be thankful for that "call me maybe."

The Proposal

Typical Us

There is a time and a place for everything, and after many years together, we knew it was time to take the next step. A big part of our life is family and friends. That being said, Derrick knew approval from those closest to Bethany would be necessary. Therefore, he asked the WHOLE family for their blessing. Since everyone knew, Derrick would be questioned regularly as to when he was going to pop the question, and to everyone’s surprise it was coming sooner than later. Derrick would bounce ideas off of one of Bethany’s closest friends, knowing he wanted to do the proposal right. Bethany always wanted it to be low key, but Derrick had different ideas. After purchasing the ring, it was time! We set plans for dinner, but in typical Derrick and Bethany fashion, we canceled our dinner plans early afternoon and decided to chill on our back porch. Unsure what to do now, Derrick went home and got the ring, put it in his pocket and paced around the backyard waiting for Bethany to get home. When Bethany arrived home, we relaxed on the porch, unwinding from the day and enjoying some chips and dip. Until Bethany conveniently said, "we need to talk about life." Derrick knew this was his window. Both the time, and place people talk about! So, over a bag of chips and dip, he dropped to one knee and popped the question. Of course, the first thing out of Bethany’s mouth was not yes, no, or even maybe, but "is this a joke?" Through the shock and tears, Bethany eventually replied with a “YES” and we spent the rest of the night updating friends, family, and clients in our favorite spot.
