Things To Do

Whether you are here for a couple of days or one night, here are some things to do during your stay in Boise. Enjoy!
Outdoors - MK Nature Center - Idaho Fish and Game

Outdoors - MK Nature Center - Idaho Fish and Game

600 South Walnut Street, Boise, ID 83712

"The Idaho Fish and Game MK Nature Center offers a unique wildlife experience on a 4.6-acre site along the Boise River Greenbelt. The StreamWalk and Visitor Center provide a glimpse of Idaho's many landscapes and abundant wildlife. Underwater viewing windows along the stream walk give visitors a fish-eye view of the world. The visitor's center houses a variety of educational displays focusing on Idaho's wildlife and habitats. Taxidermy and artwork help visitors explore these topics. An observation beehive gives visitors and up-close look at the activity in the hive while also learning the importance of pollinators. The auditorium viewing windows offer opportunities to watch birds as they visit feeders. Make sure to stop by the gift shop for nature-themed gifts. All proceeds directly support nature center activities." For more information, please visit their website!

Outdoors - Greenbelt Access

Outdoors - Greenbelt Access

Greenbelt Access, Boise, ID 83706

You may notice we did not put an address on this entry. That's because the Boise Greenbelt spans a whopping 25 miles along the river. Far as we can tell the most beautiful stretch of this is right on our doorstep! From our apartment or from Zero Six, simply head away from the main road to find this. Once you hit the greenbelt you can't really go wrong. Should you cross the bridge you'll find a beautiful public golf course (Warm Springs) in one direction, and a lovely park with scenic overlooks of the river in the other. Should you not cross the bridge you can head South where eventually the pavement will run out but that will put you on a path where seasonal berries and morel mushrooms can be foraged. Head North without crossing the bridge and you'll be following Denisse's commute towards more local parks and BSU. *An added note. The prettiest direction might be across the bridge and then to the left (North). Right after the bridge you'll see a dirt trail shortcut worth taking.

Live bird demonstrations and interactive exhibits complement hands-on experiences for all ages. Enjoy panoramic views of the Treasure Valley from the interpretive trail and gazebo or browse the gift shop. Admissions and purchases support conservation programs worldwide. Last admission and trails close 45 minutes prior to closing." Please visit their website for more information on admissions price.

Hot Springs-The Springs Idaho

Hot Springs-The Springs Idaho

3742 Idaho 21, Idaho City, ID 83631

The Springs Idaho is the closest hot springs to Boise. You can either reserve for a relaxing private soak or go with a group and relax by the big pool. Either way, we highly recommend this if you have the chance. Reservations do fill up quickly so try to reserve well in advance.

Coffee - Zero Six Coffee Fix

Coffee - Zero Six Coffee Fix

404 East Parkcenter Boulevard, Boise, ID 83706

When Ryan and I traveled the 15 hours From California to Boise, we only brought our two bunnies and essential items. While our french press was absolutely among those things, we had no groceries to speak of and so we decided to walk down to this coffee shop for some coffee and a pastry. Because Zero Six was our first real experience with Idahoans, and Idaho pricing, this spot holds a special place in our hearts and history as a couple.

Coffee - Push & Pour

Food - Casanova Pizzeria

2431 Fairview Avenue, Boise, ID 83702

A vegetarian friend of ours will eat meat so long as it's on the pizza here. Enough said?

Food - Westside Drive In

1113 East Parkcenter Boulevard, Boise, ID 83706

Delicious, affordable, and as seen on TV American food. Come here if you want a decent burger, ice cream potato, a Monte Cristo sandwich, or finger steaks.

Brunch - The Griddle

Brunch - The Griddle

404 East Parkcenter Boulevard, Boise, ID 83706

The first restaurant we ate at in Boise and our favorite brunch place (though Ryan wonders if Eggman might be better).

Brunch - Egg Mann and Earl

Brunch - Egg Mann and Earl

650 East Boise Avenue, Boise, ID 83706

Great decor, good food, and a free scone when you sit down.

Shop - Antique World Mall and The Annex

Shop - Antique World Mall and The Annex

4544 West Overland Road, Boise, ID 83705

This place is a true gem for any who have been to some of the larger consignment stores such as the one near Sports Arena Blvd in San Diego. Inside you'll find one of the cleanest, most well curated consignment stores we have ever seen. Just be sure to have 2 to 3 hours set aside if you really want to dive in deep. If on such a day your sweet tooth is in high gear the other side of this parking lot has a small Arab market and restaurant where you can treat yourself to a little baklava before your excursion.

Shop - ABU Games

Shop - ABU Games

7211 West Colonial Street, Boise, ID 83709

Given that making friends as a pair of introverts is difficult, Ryan was happy to learn about a group of guys that meet here Tuesdays for something called Cube. For any board game or card game aficionados this place is a must see, the size of which makes no sense. Seriously this place must have grants from the county or something because it is Massive. Best of all this place has a large library of free to play board games such as Wingspan, Lord of the Rings, Catan, etc-cet-ter-ra galore!

Shop - Stewart's Gem Shop

Shop - Stewart's Gem Shop

2618 West Idaho Street, Boise, ID 83702

While visiting the Treasure Valley (our county) of The Gem State it would only be fitting to visit local rockhound hangouts. Here you'll find beautiful gems, fossils, adorable french bulldogs, and more! For a little personal history, this is also where we got our rings resized and picked up materials for the centerpieces you'll see at our reception.

Shop - Mixed Greens | Modern Gifts

Shop - Mixed Greens | Modern Gifts

213 North 9th Street, Boise, ID 83702

One of the two best local gift shops, conveniently located downtown. Note also this is blocks away from the second location of Sunshine Spice Bakery.

Shop - Hyde & Seek

Shop - Hyde & Seek

1521 North 13th Street, Boise, ID 83702

The next best gift shop. Smaller but more artful.

Hikes - Table Rock, Owl's Roost, Dry Creek Gulch

Hikes - Table Rock, Owl's Roost, Dry Creek Gulch

Boise, ID 83712

Table Rock is home to the large cross you can see from our windows. This is a relatively easy hike though all uphill. Owl's Roost looks to be short on All Trails but is continuous with several other hikes where you can do a loop. Dry Creek Trail is where some of Denisse's colleagues have done sage brush research and is a happy medium difficulty with better trees than the other two options listed here.
