Dee Dee and Alan met when they were students at Baylor University, and that's where it all started. They dated until Dee Dee graduated from Baylor in August 1984 and moved home to San Angelo, Texas, to start her career. Alan, the younger of the two, graduated from Baylor a couple years later. For the next 3o years, both experienced life through careers, relationships, places, events and successes. The former lovebirds communicated periodically through letters, phone calls and social media, wishing each other happy birthdays, and keeping up with careers, relationships and family. On Jan. 1, 2015, each attended the Cotton Bowl at AT&T Stadium to see their beloved Baylor Bears play in one of the major New Year's Day college football games. Not missing a chance to say hello in person, Dee Dee and Alan met up briefly during halftime. Fast forward to summer 2018 when they again reconnected and began a long-distance relationship, with Dee Dee living in Texas and Alan in Arizona. On April 8, 2022, Alan proposed to Dee Dee at a surprise party he planned in Fort Worth with the help of mutual friends. Special people in Dee Dee's life -- including her daughter, Andrea, her parents, other family members, close friends and co-workers -- attended what they thought was a surprise birthday party for Dee Dee. Alan surprised them all and proposed! Dee Dee retired as a 37-year educator in June 2022, after serving the last nine years as an elementary school principal. She and her temperamental cat, Paxton, joined Alan in Phoenix in July 2022.
