After an attempt to be set up by a mutual friend, Tyler DeMasi, over a year passed when David was by chance in Lauren's apartment at a halloween party. David recognized Lauren and walked up to her for the purpose of saying hello. Lauren being the great host she is, after being approached by David, quickly offered him the choice of an orange or blue jello shot and continued to entertain everyone at the party. It wasn't until David thanked Lauren the next day for hosting that Lauren realized that David had been in her apartment the night before. From this moment forward they stayed in contact until Lauren invited David to Columbia.

When we first started dating in 2018 Lauren was at the University of South Carolina completing nursing school and cheering. David was in the middle of his recovery from Tommy-John surgery at Furman. Over the next year, there were many trips back and forth to baseball games and football games to watch each other play and cheer. The distance was lengthened in 2020 when David moved to Starkville, Mississippi for a year to play at Mississippi State. In 2021, Lauren was working as a PICU Nurse in Columbia when David started Law School in Charleston. Lauren joined David (and Jordan Beatson) in Charleston, starting a job at an outpatient surgery center, and we were living together for the first time! In 2022 we moved in together in an apartment in Mount Pleasant where we now call home!
