Katie and David met in college, in a conflict management and negotiation class, believe it or not... Students were unevenly paired. Deliberately. The first exercize sounded a lot like arm wrestling. You got a point every time the other person's hand came down, they got one for yours. But... there was no point cap! There was no reward for making the other person lose. The message was that many challenges are better met cooperatively, rather than competitively. Unfortunately, we often assume competition. In this case, students who took turns bringing their arms back and forth during the exercize had more than 12x the score of those who didn't. Apparently, David and Katie were paying attention, because they have a whole life of cooperating ahead of them.
