The Story of Us

03 • 05 • 16

In February of 2016, David and Meghan met when they were both living in South Carolina. Their first date at the Columbia zoo was such a success that they decided to also have dinner and then why not add on a movie as well. Three dates in one and the conversations just kept on flowing. After that night, they both knew this was something special. For their fifth date, David planned an entire day of surprise activities in his hometown of Greenville, SC. To start the day, the two hiked Table Rock and ate a picnic at the top as they lounged in a hammock. Afterwards, David took Meghan on a walk through Falls Park to see the waterfall in the middle of downtown. The night ended with a romantic dinner with a table overlooking the river. That date, March 5th 2016, David and Meghan became “official”! Fast forward a couple months, Meghan was off to Nashville, TN. A new city and a new job. Would their young relationship survive the long distance? The connection between them was undeniable, so for two long years the couple traveled back and forth, met in the middle, and adventured to new places as their relationship continued to grow stronger and stronger. In the summer of 2018, David was accepted to UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. Meghan was ready to move on to a new teaching position, so they decided to say goodbye to long distance and move to North Carolina together. That December, David and Meghan got an adorable Australian Shepherd puppy and named him Oakley. Their pack was formed and over the next several years the little family hiked, road tripped, and adventured all over the country, creating countless memories and forming the strongest of bonds. In the spring of 2020, David began planning a weekend getaway back to Greenville, SC with their friends. Little did Meghan know, David had something special planned...

The Proposal

In the Spring of 2020, David began to plan a weekend getaway to Greenville with their friends Katie and Jesse. Meghan was super excited for a weekend with friends full of food, drinks, and hiking Table Rock. As the trip drew near, Meghan became suspicious of David’s weekend itinerary. The trip was the same weekend as their 4 year dating anniversary and quite similar to the Greenville date years earlier when they became official. Lying in bed one night, Meghan began to connect the dots and freaked out wondering whether or not David was going to propose. However, the next day after she had calmed down and convinced herself that she must be overthinking everything, Meghan shared her crazy thoughts with David so they could laugh about it together. As Meghan relayed her thoughts, David laughed and nonchalantly poked hole after hole in her reasoning. Further convinced that she had freaked out for no reason, Meghan went into the weekend excited and not suspecting a thing. Meghan was so convinced that she continued joking with David throughout the whole weekend. The morning they left she said, “David, I’m so excited. This is the weekend we get engaged!” The next morning she said, “David, today’s the day we get engaged!” At the top of Table Rock, she told David, “Okay, I’m ready for you to propose now.” As they were taking pictures, David got down on one knee and Meghan immediately began saying, “David, this isn’t funny. Stop.” As David reached for her hand, Meghan began crying and stepping away from David, all the while saying, “No. No. No.” Then, it hit Meghan. This was real. This was happening. SHE WAS RIGHT! Everyone was laughing as she finally said, “YES!”
