I had just parked my car in the parking garage at our apartment and was attempting to juggle quite a few things. Darren, who had also just gotten out of his car, offered to help me carry something but I declined. He ended up holding the elevator for me where we shared some small talk on our way up to the third floor. When I got settled in my apartment I realized I failed to get this kind strangers name, rarely does anyone talk in an apartment complex so it slightly caught me off guard. I decided to be completely forward and write him a note to see if he'd want to get dinner sometime. I ended up leaving the note on the windshield of his car. Of course the next day I anxiously waited to see if I'd hear anything back. I didn't hear from him until that evening because he had managed to drive all the way to Epic without noticing the note on his windshield! Clearly God had you in His plans for me for that note to hang on. Apparently when he got to his car after work he thought he had gotten a ticket, whoops! We had our first date about a week later and have been together ever since.
On the first evening in our new house, we invited both of our families over for dinner to thank them for all of their help throughout the moving process. Darren offered to lead us in prayer before diving into the meal. To my surprise after "Amen," I opened my eyes to see him getting down on one knee asking me to marry him. Somehow in my blubbery, completely surprised state I managed to say "Yes!" It was such a special moment to share with the people we love the most.
