Saguaro National Park is in southern Arizona. Its 2 sections are on either side of the city of Tucson. The park is named for the large saguaro cactus, native to its desert environment. In the western Tucson Mountain District, Signal Hill Trail leads to petroglyphs of the ancient Hohokam people. In the eastern Rincon Mountain District, Cactus Forest Drive is a loop road with striking views of the desert landscape.
A popular trail is Bear Canyon to Seven Falls. Experience this 8.4-mile out-and-back trail near Tucson, Arizona. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 3 h 31 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking and walking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are October through April. You'll need to leave pups at home — dogs aren't allowed on this trail.
This is a big park offering tours of a cave with unique rock formations & a butterfly garden. Highly recommend the Classic Cave Tour. This half-mile long guided walk takes about 40 minutes to complete. It’s the perfect family-friendly introduction to the Cave. You’ll learn about the Cave’s history, its legends (like train robbers and ghosts), and its unique geology. As you descend approximately six stories deep (363 stair steps) you’ll see some amazing cave formations including stalactites, stalagmites, flowstone, box work, and helictites that were sculpted by millions of years of geological activity. And keep an eye out for the wildlife too! Tours are given daily on the hour, year-round. No special gear is needed on this tour, just comfortable walking shoes.
