As you all know, we are high school sweethearts. We had your typical (OK, maybe nerdier) sk8er boi story: he flirted, she flirted back, they pass notes, then first date. We saw Dark Knight Rises in theaters even though we both had already seen it. Dan fell asleep (or rested his eyes, depending on who you ask). We went right back for a second date to see the return of Finding Nemo in theaters. We dated for two years in high school and then decided we would give the impossible a try: long distance dating for four years of college. Danyelle went upstate and Dan went to Boston. The Dean of Dan’s school told every student at orientation to “break up with your high school girlfriends and boyfriends – it will never work!” Oops. We saw each other every few weeks, taking turns who would make the trip (which typically consisted of a 4-7 hour bus ride, a train, and neck pain). Four years later we were graduating and ready to put long distance and bus rides far behind us. Finally, we were beginning our lives together in the same state. In fact, we decided to make it the same apartment. We moved into a basement unit in Astoria, Queens and fell in love with the neighborhood and each other all over again. We’ve been in Queens ever since. Danyelle went to grad school in downtown Manhattan for her masters. Dan went to the Upper West Side for law school. Along the way we added two furry companions to our lives and if there is anything we love more than each other, it is our little menaces. One year later, Dan proposed in Central Park by Bow Bridge. He convinced Danyelle there was a pop-up photo shoot for couples to go and take pictures together (it’s NYC, literally anything is plausible). And now here we are: a full decade since we started passing notes to each other in English class. We hope you all will join us in May to celebrate with us.
