The Jack and Jill trail up Bartonville Mountain is a 1.3 mile round trip hike that features beautiful views of Brant Lake and the surrounding mountains. It is rated as moderate (but we consider it more easy to moderate) with a 547 feet elevation gain. A great hike to do with kids! Parking is available next to The Hub and the trailhead is located right behind it. There are other biking/hiking trails you can continue on if you are looking for more exercise, but they don't have views of the lake/mountains so probably not worth it for most people. If not everyone in your group is up for the hike, they can just hang out and relax with a drink at The Hub!
Lily Pond is a 2.3 mile out and back trail near Brant Lake. It is rated as an easy hike, with a 203 feet elevation gain. It has a pretty view of the pond and is good for all skill levels. A great nature hike to do with kids!
The Pinnacle is a 1.5 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Bolton Landing, NY. It is rated as moderate (although we consider it more easy to moderate) and features beautiful views of Lake George. Elevation gain is 479 feet. A great hike to do with kids!
This is where Danny proposed to Erica! This hike is rated as moderate (although we consider it more easy to moderate). It is a heavily trafficked 3.4 mile out and back trail with a 1,561 feet elevation gain. It has an open summit with good views to the east, south (including Great Sacandaga Lake), and west. It also has a restored fire tower which allows great views in all directions. Kid-friendly, but more challenging than Lily Pond and Pinnacle. Make sure to sign in and out at the trailhead.
Looking for a beautiful view of the Adirondacks without the effort of hiking? The beautiful 100 mile view from the 2,030' summit of Prospect Mountain can be accessed by driving the 5.5 mile winding road (Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway) that leads to a parking lot at the summit. En route are three overlooks, offering views of Lake George, The Narrows, and The Eagle's Eye. From the parking lot, take the continuously running shuttle to the top for even more beautiful views. There is a $10 per car fee to access the road and park in the lot. Alternatively, you can opt for the 3.2 mile round trip hike from Smith Street in Lake George Village. This heavily trafficked trail is rated as moderate to difficult (we consider it to be more moderate but there are some steep sections). The elevation gain is 1,535 feet. Make sure to sign in and out at the trailhead.
Cat Mountain via Red Trail is a 3.8 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail near Bolton Landing, NY with beautiful panoramic views of Lake George. The trail is rated as moderate. The red trail is the most direct trail to the summit but also the steepest. The elevation gain is 1,125 feet. Park at the trailhead on Edgecomb Pond Road. Follow trail signs carefully unless you want to end up doing a 9.1 mile hike of both Cat and Thomas Mountain, like we accidentally did with the Cullen's last summer. If you are looking for a half day hike and are up for the challenge, go for it! But we don't want you to end up being late to our wedding! ;)
