Santa Barbara is about a 2 hour drive from LAX. 
Transportation options from LAX > SB are as follows. 
1. Santa Barbara Airbus. Reservations required. Starts at 8am and leaves every 2 hours with the last bus leaving LAX at 10pm. About $50pp. 
2. Train. LA Union Station to SB Station is about 2 hr 45 min and costs roughly $30-$50 per ticket. 
3. Car Rental. Renting via Turo will give you the most bang for your buck. 

There is also the option to fly directly to Santa Barbara's smaller airport. 
Downtown SB is very walkable, and Uber and Lyft drivers are readily available.
