Travel & Accommodation

This page covers recommendations on where to stay, how to get there, and some other travel tips. Guests are responsible for booking their own accommodation. We have listed a few options that are within walking distance to the wedding venue, Casa Coco, where we are staying with our families. You are welcome to stay anywhere on the island, but keep in mind that you will have to arrange your own transportation to/from Casa Coco.

Flight

Cancun Airport

Cancun is the closest airport to Isla Mujeres. After landing in Cancun, you will need to take a shuttle/cab to the Puerto Juarez Ferry Terminal. Depending on traffic, this should take around 40 minutes. Taxis are significantly more expensive, so we recommend booking a shuttle beforehand. We have linked a company we used when traveling to the island.

Travel Note

Ferry Ride to Isla Mujeres

The ferry runs at 5:30a, 6:30a, 7a-6p every half hour, then every hour until 11 p. It takes 20 min to get to Isla Mujeres. You can buy your roundtrip ferry ticket ($540 MXN, ~$30 USD) once you arrive at the ferry terminal at the Ultramar ticket booth. If you don't mind some wind, sit on the top deck to enjoy beautiful views of the water! Remember to hold onto your ticket for the return journey :)

Travel Note

Transport from Isla Mujeres Ferry Terminal to Your Accommodation

Check with your hotel beforehand to see if they offer complimentary transport services to/from the ferry terminal. Alternatively, there are plenty of red cabs parked outside of the ferry terminal. A 10 minute ride should cost around 150 pesos.

Travel Note

Transport Around the Island

(1) Golf cart rentals - This is the most popular form of transport. You can book 4, 6 or even 8 seater golf carts. You can contact your hotel beforehand to see if they can arrange this for you. Alternatively, you can use the site linked below to book a cart. (2) Taxis - These are very easy to find and fairly cheap. Traveling from south of the island to Playa Norte typically cost us 150 pesos ($10 USD). (3) Public bus - The bus circles the entire island. You can buy an all day pass for $7 USD.

Travel Note

Passport

You will need a passport for this trip! If you already have one, please make sure that it will not expire until 180 days after the wedding. People with U.S. passports do NOT need a tourist visa. If you are traveling with a non-U.S. passport, please check country-specific requirements beforehand.

Travel Note

Money

Most places on Isla mujeres accept U.S. currency and credit cards; however, having pesos is probably better. There is a money exchange with a decent exchange rate at the Isla Mujeres ferry terminal. We recommend having small bills with you for tipping. Don't forget to let your bank know that you will be traveling out of the country!

Travel Note

Phone

If you don't already have it, we recommend downloading whatsapp. We will create a groupchat to ensure easy communication with guests.
