We met in the most old fashioned and romantic of ways - through a dating app! This particular app uses prompts to get you to share a little info about yourself and Jessica used the “two truths and a lie” option: “I’ve been to South Africa; I donated a kidney; I have a tattoo.” While lounging in her backyard one May Sunday afternoon, Jessica received a message from a handsome guy in response to the "two truths and a lie" that said "I'll show you my scar if you show me yours!" Her interest was piqued immediately, and a lazy day in the sun suddenly became more interesting. After discovering we each donated a kidney to our fathers in 2014, the conversation flowed easily. Daniel was in New York City with "the boys" for the day, waiting in line for sushi while we learned more about each other and by the time he boarded a train back to Philly that evening, we were already making plans for our first date on Tuesday night. Daniel suggested drinks at Royal Boucherie in Old City, a French-inspired bistro with delicious cocktails. The attraction was instant, and the conversation was relaxed. Though we were both nervous, we admitted to each other later, we could each tell right away that this felt different from prior first dates. We were briefly interrupted by an intoxicated older gentleman at the bar, who told us we needed to go to Yosemite right away, but otherwise we didn't take our eyes off each other. We were so into each other, in fact, that Daniel didn't even notice his best man John Parker sitting at the other end of the bar! As we parted ways that evening, we made plans for dinner on Thursday. After shutting down that restaurant, and a toasty 3rd date over brunch, Jessica invited Daniel to come to the theater with her that week. Daniel wasn't aware he'd be meeting his future in-laws so soon, but this couldn't have worked out better! The rest, as they say, is history.
After sixteen or so months at home together, it had become very clear that we were headed towards marriage. The problem was - we were both home ALL DAY EVERY DAY! It was really tough for Daniel to be sneaky about proposing but after 4th of July, Jessica was back in the office 3 days a week so he had more opportunities to make plans. On July 22, Daniel sent a dozen red roses to the house with a note saying we had plans that evening back where it all started! We went for a drink at Royal Boucherie and then walked over to the 18th Century Garden, where Daniel had a photographer waiting to capture the moment! It was absolutely perfect.
We love you all and cannot wait to get together to celebrate! We are monitoring developments and safety recommendations and will update our plans if necessary. We request that everyone who attends our wedding be vaccinated to protect those we love. Thank you for understanding!
