Dani & Taner

The Germaphobe's Love Story

We matched on Hinge in July 2022. Taner thinks Dani was drawn to him because he looked cool in one of his pictures posing next to his Tesla, but it turns out it was actually a sweet photo of him with his mom, Ayla, that caught her eye. We went on our first date on July 28, 2022, at Playa Bowls (Dani's favorite smoothie bowl place) on Tuckerman Lane. Taner massacred his acai bowl by mixing the beautifully curated bowl into a cold, watery soup. Luckily, he was cute and sweet, so Dani was able to look past the Playa Bowl decimation. In fact, we hit it off so well that we decided to go on a second date just three days later! We ate outside at Silver Diner in Rio. Dani really knew this guy had potential after he said, "I know this is kind of weird, but I’m going to go in and wash my hands before the food comes out. I always wash my hands before I eat." Taner probably could have proposed right then and there - no words more attractive have ever been said - we were a germaphobe match made in heaven! After brunch, we went to Dave and Busters, where Taner quickly learned about Dani's competitive side and proceeded to lose in every game of basketball, cornhole, football, and baseball. Then, Dani got a taste of her own medicine in a game where you smack buttons as they light up (modern-day whack-a-mole)—all of Taner's video gaming reflex skills got to shine! ... and yes, we SCRUBBED our hands before leaving Dave and Busters, because ew! Since then, we have had many laughs as well as spirited debates over what constitutes a "clean sink" (we’ll let you guess who is who, but here’s a hint: the messy one’s name rhymes with Banner!) Our adventures have taken us from Colorado to Shenandoah, Alabama, New Orleans, Chicago, Maine, Rehoboth Beach, and Florida. We’ve hiked, golfed, thrown axes, forged iron, attended concerts, enjoyed musicals, kayaked (Dani almost puked #MotionsicknessProblems), climbed mountains (learned Taner has a fear of heights), painted (In case you were wondering, Taner's painting was better), shot archery, and skipped stones - well, more like watched Taner skip stones while Dani’s sank straight to the bottom! ... It's harder than it looks! We have also enjoyed lots of time with family and friends and many simple nights at home with a home-cooked meal, cuddling on the couch, and watching TV with Brody. Fast forward two years, and Taner decided to propose - God bless him for signing up for a lifetime of nagging, gameplans, and checklists!... His plan was to propose in Maine, but Dani had to ruin his plans by catching COVID (for the first time after avoiding it for over four years #germaphobe) a few weeks prior, and still wasn't feeling up to hiking. Proposal Plan B ended up working out amazingly! It was exactly 2 years to the day of our first date and we took Brody for a walk on the C&O Canal, and Taner got down on one knee. It was the perfect proposal - minus the cyclist who rode through a quarter of the way into it, forcing us to awkwardly move to the side of the trail and wait for him to pass... at least it made for a funny proposal story! After Dani wiped away her happy tears, showered, and got a manicure, we were able to celebrate with our families that evening, which made it even more special! Family means EVERYTHING to us, and you are invited to our wedding because you are family or friends who feel like family to us. We are looking forward to a lifetime of more adventures and hand washing, and we can't wait to celebrate our marriage with you on April 5, 2025!
