We met in a job interview. Damon was set to move to a new department and assisted in finding a replacement to take over his role. Thankfully, they hired me. We worked closely together for two weeks and, during this time, we found ourselves talking outside of the office every day after work. I started my job in Mesa, Arizona in mid June. Despite this, we repeatedly chose to stand in the scorching summer heat in order to spend more time together.
Damon insisted that both of our families come together for Thanksgiving last year. In the years prior we had a separate dinner with each family. I could not understand why he felt so strongly about sharing this holiday but, ultimately, I agreed. Our families met at his parents' house to enjoy this celebration as one clan. We gathered outside to take a group photo right before dinner. I knew things were serious when Damon turned to me and said my whole name - first, middle, and last.
