The Roanoke Star is an iconic symbol of Virginia's Blue Ridge and a must-see spot when visiting the region.The star sits perched atop Mill Mountain and overlooks the surrounding valley and Blue Ridge Mountains, serving as a beacon and welcoming sign to visitors.It is illuminated every night.As the largest, free-standing, man-made, illuminated star in the world, the Roanoke Star is one of the most photographed attractions in the area and the scenic overlook at the base of the structure is a popular stop for an incredible view of the region.
Located in the heart of Downtown Roanoke, the Science Museum of Western Virginia is a hands-on learning environment for both children and adults. We are a non-profit organization that boasts 12 exhibits, each focusing on a fascinating STEM topic, and our mission to inspire our visitors to explore topics, passions and careers in STEM.
The Taubman Museum of Art is part of the lively metro mountain mix of arts, culture and outdoor fun in the heart of downtown Roanoke, Virginia. The Museum offers 11 galleries as part of the Fralin Center for American Art and originates 15-20 exhibitions per year. Featured artists have ranged from Kehinde Wiley to John James Audubon and from Sally Mann to Norman Rockwell. The Museum is also home to a renowned permanent collection. Museum hours: Wednesday - Saturday, 10am - 5pm Sunday, 12pm - 5pm Plus extended hours until 9pm the 1st Friday and of each month. General admission is free.
