Cynthia and Gilbert’s story begins when the two, after a few weeks of casual online chatting, made plans to meet at a quaint Central El Paso coffee shop. It was a cool December evening and Gilbert walked into the stylish Bohemian cafe in his leather jacket, blue jeans, and boots. Cynthia sat waiting at a table in a cable knit sweater, which kept the chill night air at bay when the door swung open. The two meeting in person for the first time was a juxtaposition of styles. However, the ensuing date proved that they were a match for the ages, made apparent by the act of meeting for coffee but both choosing to order beer instead. Gilbert listened, intrigued, as Cynthia spoke about her busy and complex life as a Ph.D. student and community organizer, on top of her full time and part time jobs. Cynthia was equally impressed by Gilbert’s genuine personality and intellect coupled by his unorthodox sense of humor. The two enjoyed each other’s company for a round or two of beer. When time came to bid each other a good night, Gilbert asked if Cynthia would accompany him to a late night punk rock show at a local dive bar. When she politely passed on the offer, Gilbert asked again. And again. As the two finally parted they unknowingly began their long journey to becoming the loving and inseparable couple that they are today.
On Monday, May 22nd, Gilbert took Cynthia to a diamond show hosted by Kay Jewelers and asked her to choose a custom made engagement ring. She selected a one-of-a-kind oval cut diamond with a simple but elegant setting. They made their official announcement the following day once the ring was ready and began their journey to "I do."
