Year 1: The year was 2013. Taylor Swift’s Red Era was coming to a close with the debut of her hit single “22” and the Marvel Cinematic Universe just launched their Phase 2 with the release of Iron Man 3. The Swiftie you know as, Vieniza-Ashley Mendoza, was just getting into her Island Princess Era listening to island reggae music and enrolling in a Tahitian dance troupe. Your friendly neighborhood MCU fan, Chris Refuerzo, was in his nomadic, indie-music artist phase where he would drive all around CA and had his mom’s guitar stashed in the trunk. How these two would ever come to meet was something only God could have ever scripted, but after 9 amazing seasons with jaw-dropping surprises, lavish destinations, and iconic performances, the best is still to come in Year 10. The Hashtag: It started with a hashtag: #StruggleToStarbucks. On an ordinary day while running late for school, Chris felt the need to post a selfie with his coffee on Instagram using that hashtag. With that post, God made a way for Vieniza to find her one true love. Through that hashtag came 300 comments back and forth, to phone and FaceTime calls, to eventually deciding to meet in person. On a random day, Chris hopped on I-5, turned onto Highway 12, down the 160, and merged onto Highway 4 to meet this Filipino beauty. It was at Sun Valley Mall where they first made eye contact and would be locked in ever since. Year 1 followed Chris and Vieniza on a first date at the park, 3 A’s games, 10 original songs, and of course their first of countless Disneyland trips. Vieniza would go on to feel 20, too, as she said goodbye to her teenage years. Though Chris was no hero in a flying suit, he was an iron man making the hour-long commute in the first year of this long-distance relationship. After 12 months, they officially became boyfriend and girlfriend, and they would remain so for 9 years. Until… The Question: Vieniza and Chris had only gone to 3 concerts together, but this year on a whim they were going to Arizona to see Taylor Swift. It was the first stop in her Eras Tour, a culmination of all her music packed into 1 amazing show. Vieniza would previously only go to Arizona to visit her best friend, Kayzelle. Not in her wildest dreams did she know that while she was there on her last best friend trip, that Chris was back at home, determined to buy a wedding ring. Something inside of Chris told him that it was time and the Taylor Swift concert would be the perfect “diversion” to excite an unsuspecting Vieniza from the surprise of a lifetime. It was a custom ring that arrived only 2 days before their flight and Kayzelle was the inside woman to aid in the deception. The plan was for Kayzelle to take them out for dinner with this being Chris’s first time in AZ. On the way to the restaurant, they took a “detour” to Papago Park where you can see the most beautiful desert sunsets in the whole world. In their own space by some water with palm trees, there was a lovely white sheet trimmed by candlelight and anchored by Vieniza’s favorite flower arrangement. As the sun went down, Chris took a knee and asked Vieniza those elusive, magic words to which she replied, “Of course!” Year 10: Join us for this magical season as Chris and Vieniza embark on their very own live show culminating 10 years of their love.
