How We Met

"The App made to be deleted"

It turns out, the slogan for Hinge turned out to be true for us. We met on the dating app in February of 2021. Lauren insists that there was 'just something different' about his profile, so she kept it around despite not knowing what about the profile drew her interest. While he did manage to avoid the quintessential "man holding a fish" picture on his profile, he made the confusing choice to have a picture of him sleeping on a couch...I guess it's a good thing they are both quirky. Lauren reached out to him on Valentine's Day (according to Adam, she likes to forget this detail...it seems a little desperate), and the rest is history. Their first date was to the Mead Botanical Garden, which is also where Adam proposed. They are both absolute nerds (though, admittedly about different things), who now spend half their lives trying to convince their cat, Nox, to deign to give them attention. They love a good board game or video game night, laughing with their friends, an outdoor adventure when the Florida weather complies, and are working hard to keep finding opportunities to travel and see the world.

For those of you who don't know Lauren...

A brief history

Lauren grew up in Ashland, KY, and left at seventeen to head on an "adventure in the great wide somewhere." She got her BFA in Musical Theatre at Millikin University (Decatur, IL) then moved to New York City the day she graduated. Since then, she has essentially followed her love of theatre (acting, singing, dancing) all over the country. For the past nine years she has worked at Universal Studios Florida, fulfilling a childhood dream of living in the world of Harry Potter; she is a full-time performer there, but recently cross-trained in a Show Direction skill assisting the Entertainment Events team. Her love of storytelling expands to all parts of the process, while she will always seek out opportunities to be onstage, she also loves story analysis and direction. She is working towards a Masters Degree in Organizational Leadership. She's a big nerdy empath, who sings random sentences, is bad at small talk (but let's talk about your childhood secrets), loves to read, researches random topics for fun, and is generally pretty over the top until she gets overstimulated and needs to sit quietly alone in a room.

For those of you who don't know Adam

A brief history

Adam grew up in Winslow, Arizona and ventured off to Brazil for two years shortly after high school, gaining a wider perspective of the world. After returning home to Arizona Adam wanted to help people suffering from pain and became a massage therapist. For a little over a decade, he helped people with various neuromuscular conditions in a chiropractic clinic in Phoenix. Quite the Renaissance Man, he then decided to go back to school and got a degree in applied welding sciences. Since then he’s been gaining more skills as a craftsman, but most of his experience is with welding stainless steel. Learning to speak Portuguese awakened a thirst for knowledge in him; on any given day you can find him deep-diving into podcasts, audiobooks, auteur cinema....and video games of course. Adam has a special skill for choosing an obscure, artsy movie for movie night that the rest of the group won't like...just ask his family...or Lauren.
