If you know us it's probably not that big of a surprise that we met while working during an Election Day. We were both at the same polling location during the Spring Primary outside of a high school in Northeast Philly in April 2012. There was a spark the few hours we got to hang out, but the timing wasn't right. A few months later we saw each other again at a work event in August, went on our first date a week later, and the rest is history!
We took a pretty big trip to Tokyo, Japan with some of our closest family and friends. Vicki's parents met in Japan and it's always been a lifelong dream to go back to the country they fell in love in. We were finally able to organize a trip with 12 of us to go over. Jon had asked for permission months prior when it seemed like the trip was going to become a reality. Vicki was suspicious before we even got there since people were saying weird thing before we left like "make sure your nails are done" or overhearing weird conversations where people kept saying "keep me updated on what happens" as we were leaving for the trip. Also- how can you not be suspicious when you're going on this kind of trip with so many people!? The plan was to propose when we took a trip to Mt. Fuji however, we didn't make it to Mt. Fuji until we got closer to the end of the trip. We went to a whole bunch of scenic Japanese places where Vicki thought "maybe this is it?!" except it wasn't. When it did happen it was a rainy day and she was caught off guard. We got engaged at the Arakura Sengen Shrine, where the famous Chureito Pagoda is, that has incredible views of Mt. Fuji. Our group hiked up to the shrine, which is over 400 steps. Vicki still cracks up that she didn't catch on when half the group took out their phones to take a picture of them, not knowing that they all knew what was about to happen. Jon asked, Vicki said yes (after some sobs and ugly crying)!
