(Craig’s exact words when he realized Susan didn’t live in Seattle lol) Charleston, South Carolina, is a historic city known for its antebellum architecture, cobblestone streets, and Southern charm. Founded in 1670, it played a significant role in American history, particularly during the Civil War. The city is situated along the coast, offering access to several beach communities, including Isle of Palms, Sullivan's Island, and Folly Beach. These communities are popular tourist destinations known for their pristine beaches, laid-back atmosphere, and outdoor recreational activities. Charleston itself boasts a rich cultural scene, with renowned restaurants, art galleries, and historic landmarks such as Rainbow Row and the Battery. Susan and her parents have a beautiful house in Mt Pleasant, where her parents, her friends, and (surrogate) family live. Our very first date when Craig flew to Charleston to first meet Susan was on Shem Creek and at the harbor marina in Mount Pleasant. After hours of talking on the beach, we explored downtown Charleston and walked the Battery before heading back to Mt. P for dinner at Susan’s favorite pizza place there, La Pizzeria. We kicked off Day 2 at church and then Page’s for breakfast with a walk on the docks at Shem before saying goodbye to each other and our Hallmark movie first date weekend. It was such a dream! We want our wedding to be somewhere that our friends and family can have an amazing, unforgettable, beachy weekend celebrating with us. We can’t wait for you to experience Charleston’s romance and beauty and fall in love with it like we did! 🌴🌞🏖️

Susan and Craig met on a mobile dating app called “Bumble” when Susan flew into Seattle on a business trip and Craig was about to fly across the country on vacation to Key West. Susan swiped right on Craig and Craig swiped right on Susan Feb 3, 2023. 🐝 Bumble uses geolocation to serve up potential results for dates and somehow (by the grace of God), Craig and Susan were in the same place (SeaTac area), at the same time to be “matched”. 💕 In online dating, Craig enjoyed not texting people, instead preferring to send quick video messages…because as he says, “You can text for days with thousands of words just to find out they like dogs.” So Craig sent Susan a couple short video messages showing off Key West and just saying “hi”. Susan, feeling a little uncomfortable, forced herself to take a leap and send a quick hello video message back. 🎥 After 6 weeks of talking and video messaging, Craig took another leap of faith and flew to Charleston to meet Susan. And he first let her know of his plans with his now famous one liner, “This is going to be the most expensive first date of my life!” ✈️ The date weekend in Charleston went exceptionally well and the two knew pretty quickly that they had something great going. 😍 Most people don’t date long distance because it’s expensive and difficult to not see each other. Susan and Craig were no exception, but they put their trust in the Lord. 🙏
After Craig’s first trip to Charleston, the two looked forward to Las Vegas about a month later — a great place for him to meet Susan’s parents and Hungarian family friends. On this trip, Craig wanted to show Susan that he was truly interested and committed to dating her. On the top of the Stratosphere in Las Vegas (twice the height of the Space Needle), there’s a ride that shoots you up an additional 150ft into the air above the Vegas strip. As they strapped into the ride, Craig surprised Susan with a promise ring and the whole thing was captured by one of the ride’s employees. 🎢 The couple met up in Disneyland about 3 weeks later. As you would imagine, their relationship continued to grow against the backdrop of Mickey Mouse ears, fireworks, and turkey legs, in the place where both of their dreams of finding love were coming true. 💘 Following that, the couple went to Seattle where Craig was set to compete in a triathlon. This trip found them on Alki Beach where the restaurant “Christos On Alki” came into the picture — the place where Craig said “I love you” to Susan for the first time. Susan thought about it for a bit and realizing she felt the same way, said she loved him back. ❤️ During the next two trips, separated by about 3 weeks, the couple went to Charleston (where Craig asked Susan’s father if he could marry Susan) and LA where the they played in the sun and surf. 🌊
Susan knew she wanted to be with Craig and the kids and so she began to make moves to relocate back to WA so they could be together. With Jesus’ help, Susan transferred to a job in Auburn and purchased a home in University Place, WA, where they will live after the wedding. Finally in September, Susan was introduced to Andrew and Emily and they all immediately hit it off. With Susan’s beautiful cheery and fun attitude, Andrew and Emily found a new friend. Through the holidays and their time together, the family has continued to grow strong in their faith and in love together. In late January, Craig asked Susan to a special dinner. He had a private room and a 3-piece jazz band waiting for her at no other place than that restaurant “Christos On Alki.” Craig got down on one knee and proposed to Susan, “Zsuzsi Gulyas, will you marry me?” — “YES! So much yes!” The couple is excited to celebrate all that the Lord has done in a little over a year, with you all. We are so grateful to the Lord and what He has done! The King of Glory cares for you!
