It was a chilly January night when we both found ourselves at The Delancey for separate birthday parties. Glances were exchanged, but it was Connor who had the courage to approach and ask what Maggie's group was celebrating - a surprise party for Maggie's sister Claire. After he heard Maggie say she'd planned the party "with her boyfriend," (he misheard! It was planned with CLAIRE's boyfriend/now husband) he shared his best wishes with the birthday girl and graciously excused himself. As the night wore on, Connor began to wonder if he'd misheard. His friends agreed, "She's definitely looking over here!" As he was leaving, he went back over to Maggie and gave her his number on the back of a receipt. She copied the number into her phone, but for whatever fateful reason, she's kept that note forever. After our first date confirmed that we had a lot in common (including that we overlapped at Fordham) we realized we just really like being together, and we have been ever since — through COVID quarantine, marathon training, career changes, and countless other adventures. On October 14, 2023, we took a walk to the Little Red Lighthouse in Fort Washington Park. While The Delancey no longer gives paper receipts (boo!) Connor replicated his original note with a new one, a proposal, that he gave to Maggie there. She will keep that one forever too.
