Like any great love story, theirs could begin “Once upon a time”. They met “move in day” as freshmen at Christopher Newport University. Kyle was all moved in and called a fellow HS graduate and friend, McCaela, to come check out his room. She said, "great and can I bring my roommate, Kayla?" Kyle was immediately attracted to Kayla with her contagious smile. Kayla thought Kyle was a handsome athlete. From that day forward, Kyle made sure to invite Kayla and her suite mates to all his future hockey games. It wouldn’t be but a few short months later on November 12, 2012, that Kyle would ask her out and they would have their first date. Always wanting to impress, Kyle took her to Subway for lunch. It wouldn’t be much later when he would gush to his mom that she was amazing, wonderful, awesome! You Guessed it, Kyle was already in love! Kayla enjoyed spending time with Kyle and soon he was her best friend, she says that it was when he felt like “home” was when she knew he was “the one”! Within the first few years in College Kyle was thinking about a forever with Kayla and even thought about proposing center ice at his senior hockey game. They share a love of sports, animals, country music and chicken nuggets. Kayla and Kyle graduated from CNU, got jobs, grew as individuals and as a couple. There would be moves to 4 different apartments (that will test any couple). Hanging out with friends and family is a favorite thing of theirs to do. They enjoy traveling, going to the beach and even joined a kickball team together 3 years ago where they have made some lifelong friends. December 10th, 2022 would be the day everything changed. Kyle planned with friends and family to get Kayla to the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens for the Christmas lights. Christmas has always been Kayla’s favorite time of year and the time was right. Kyle surprised her by getting down on one knee in a gazebo covered in white lights to ask the question, “Will you Marry me?” She said yes!!! Kayla loves the times when they act silly, learning new songs and sing karaoke in the car (will they be your next American Idols?….probably not). Throughout the years, Kyle has loved that Kayla puts others first and her bubbly personality lights up a room. She makes his life whole. Kayla’s favorite thing about Kyle is his love and devotion to his friends, family, but especially to her. He makes her feel safe. Fast forward 364 days from engagement: the continuation of their love story.
