The Story

May 5, 2017

For those of you who don’t know, Ryan and Colleen are from the same hometown. They graduated from the same high school two years apart, and their parents still live less than ten minutes from each other. Ryan’s sister, Chelsea, was actually in the same class as Colleen. The girls had a tight group of seven and would get together at Chelsea’s house whenever Momma LD gave the ok. This was fun because occasionlly the girls would run into Chelsea’s older brothers, Rodney and Ryan. The boys were four and two years older than the girls and weren’t necessarily into their younger sister’s friends. Chelsea loved teasing everyone about her brothers of course and would always joke about someone in the group marrying one of her brothers. After high school graduation though, everyone went their separate ways to college. Four years pass, Colleen is about to graduate college. It’s the last week of finals and darties are daily. She had just finished one when she gets a call from one of her old classmates, Clayton Scott. He asked her if she wanted to stop by and catch a drink at Brothers. She having had a couple drinks already was much obliged and met him 20 minutes later. Colleen was so excited to see an old face from home. She gets to the bar, and he’s with two other guys, one of them being Ryan Carver. The drinks weren’t great during a random Wednesday afternoon in an empty Brothers, and one of the boys hadn’t spoke two words to Colleen the entire time. His initials would be RC. Colleen actually thought she had done something way back when they were kids to make him not like her. The afternoon was funny though with Clayton and reminiscing old times. Eventually they all went their separate ways, Colleen wondering what she did wrong to Ryan years ago. Ryan, however had different thoughts. He was stunned at this girl in front of him and was trying to figure out when and where he was ever going to see her again. Then a week later, to get her attention, he DMed her...twice.

The Proposal

March 16, 2019

They start at Ale Emporium. Ryan has been joking all week that he was going to take Colleen on the ride of her life, and she is starting to really get nervous. She orders a couple beers with her wings to calm her nerves. This seems to work due to Colleen being a lightweight. As dinner nears, she is the happiest girl with no worries or fears. They get back in the truck, and she notices they aren’t going in the direction of home. They pull into this empty random field with a big hangar. She starts to panic. They’re in the helicopter now. The pilot is spitting off rules and hand gestures, and Colleen’s head is starting to spin. They make it up, it’s amazing. They both are stunned at the view, and for the first time Colleen isn’t scared of the height. She’s holding her favorite person’s hand, and flying over the Indianapolis skyline. How could it get better? Ryan says, “I have a surprise for you.” Like she could handle any more surprises at this point. He says, “look right there. I told him to fly over your favorite part of Indy.” He’s pointing at Marian University where Colleen graduated college. A few minutes and a couple tears pass, and the pilot is saying they’re about to fly over Geist Reservoir. They were in the process of looking at homes to buy in the Geist area where they both wanted to eventually live. So they’re looking at all these beautiful houses absolutely stunned at the view, and Colleen accidentally looks all the way down. Skipping to the end, she vomits in the chopper. They land. She can’t believe what she just did. She’s instructing Ryan to help her clean up her mess. Ryan and the pilot are trying to just get her off of the helicopter. The pilot insists that he can clean it all up and he just wanted for her to go inside the hangar. She’s apologizing the entire walk inside and suddenly Ryan stops her. Colleen doesn’t even realize what’s happening until he’s down on one knee. “Of course. I love you.”
