The immigration line can be long at the Cancun Airport but it moves quick. Once through, you can collect your luggage and continue through the airport. Sometimes they stop you to inspect bags. When walking through the airport, people will try to stop you to sell things and arrange a ride to the resort. Ignore and continue walking as we already have pre-arranged transportation for our group. Look for someone holding and AirTransat sign or holding a sign with our names. Sometimes there is a wait for the bus, grab a cerveza or margarita and enjoy your first moments in Mexico.
Either one works! Whichever is easiest for you, the staff is grateful for all tips. Peso's will get you a better haggle prices if you are shopping. You can also bring Canadian cash to exchange in the main lobby.
Barcelo filters ALL water. It is safe to drink. The difference may be more about what your tummy is used to. We drink the tap water minimally (brush teeth, ice in drinks, etc.) just to be safe.
BEACH GRILLS (SNACKS & LUNCH) The resort has 5 beach grills spread out across the length of the beach. The beach grills are open during the day for snacks and lunch. The beach grills are situated at the end of each pool, near the pool bar. Shoes, and shirt (swim cover up) are required to enter the Grills. Snacks – 10:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Lunch – 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m BUFFETS (ALL MEALS) There is a buffet restaurant for each section of the resort. At Breakfast and Lunch, you will find something to suit every diet and desire. There are made-to-order eggs and pancakes, or just about everything you could imagine + Mimosa’s & Bailey’s Lattes! The buffets have nightly themes. They change occasionally so check the board by guest services to see the schedule. The theme nights can include Seafood, Asian, American, Gala, Italian, Mexican, Caribbean, and French. Breakfast – 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Lunch – 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Dinner – 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A LA CARTES (DINNER) The A La Carte restaurants at Barcelo are amazing! There is 11 to chose from. These require reservations & a dress code (Men - long pants & closed toe shoes - no exceptions). We suggest you pick a few before arrival so you are prepared to choose at Check-in. Try to make reservations when you check-in, they fill up fast & sometimes are hard to come by. A La Cartes operate like restaurants you are used to at home, there is a serving staff, and a menu. You can always request as many dishes as you like. They suggest a salad, soup, entree & dessert, but you are welcome to order multiples (tip excellent service!).
Barcelo has TONS of resident fish right off the beach. We highly recommend bringing a snorkel mask. We've been reading lots of reviews lately that the coral, turtles and stingrays by the Palace beach are incredible! We recommend the full face snorkel masks from Amazon - they are reasonably priced & decent quality.
THEATERS Barcelo has 3 theaters with nightly shows! Shows start at 9:30pm and are approximately an hour. A schedule of which shows are playing will be given at check-in, or are posted in each of the lobbies. You can check them all out and compare which show you'd like to check out! PLAZA MEXICANA & MAYA MALL Plaza Mexicana is an outdoor space located near the Barcelo Maya Colonial lobby. It has Jaguar’s Disco, a casino, the sports bar, and a variety of kiosks and stores for shopping. You can find souvenirs, handcrafts, alcohol, cigars (Cubans available), clothing, and jewelry plus other odds and ends. LA CANTINE CIGAR LOUNGE AT TROPICAL There is a tiny cigar lounge/bar in the Tropical lobby. It is open from 5 pm to 11 pm. There are cigars for sale as well as a full bar with a Cuban twist. The bar is air-conditioned but there is an adjoining verandah that overlooks the grounds while enjoying your cigar. This spot is usually pretty quiet and a great location. STRIKERS SPORTS BAR Strikers sports bar is usually a busy, fun, go-to spot! Strikers has a bowling alley to enjoy, American-style buffet restaurant where you can enjoy tasty meals and refreshing drinks accompanied by good music. Guests can also watch sports games in the spacious stadium area.

Yes! There is free wifi all throughout the resort. The only spots where the wifi becomes a little spotty is at the beach. With that being said, we found the wonderful suggestion of creating a wedding WhatsApp group! For those of you who aren't familiar with WhatsApp, it is a free app available to download on all smartphones where you can create group chats and communicate through wifi. Most people turn their phones on "airplane mode" so they are not charged for roaming, WhatsApp uses wifi therefore you can communicate with the app for free! We've created a WhatsApp group chat to help with communication throughout the week! If you want to meet up with us or others in the group, suggest good places to eat, where to meet by the pool, etc. We will also keep everyone up to date with anything wedding related here too! To be added to the group, download WhatsApp and click the link below on your cellphone: *If you are having troubles and would like to be added to the group, let us know and we can help out!
Here are a few random things we always find handy at an all inclusive... A pool floaty, a waterproof phone case, a wireless speaker for music on the beach, beach chair towel clips (sometimes it gets windy by the beach), a sun hat, an insulated cup (like a yeti or Bubba & a reusable straw- keeps your drinks cold & avoids multiple bar trips), a snorkel, a beach bag, etc. Some other clothing reminders... - Men - long pants, closed toed shoes for a la carte dinners - Women - cover ups for lunch trips - A long sleeve/light cardigan for evening strolls (it sometimes seems a little chilly in the evenings after being in the heat all day) - Comfy shoes (Barcelo is HUGE- over a mile of beach! Expect to walk a bunch if you want to explore the full resort. There is a bus that comes around to take you to other areas of the resort if you want also. ) *In your carry on, we suggest you to pack a change of clothes. Usually check in is not until 3pm. A quick lunch, walk on the beach, or dip in the pool is easy to enjoy if your carry on is prepared! We pack flip flops, shorts and bathing suits in our backpacks to hang out in while we wait for our rooms.
Beach Cocktail is the vibe we are going for. We will have a shoe station located on the beach as we are thrilled to have a barefoot beach wedding!
We've created a shared Google Photo Album in hopes you can all share your photos with us! Use the link below and add photos as you go or at the end of the trip and together we can all have tons of memories to share with each other! https://photos.app.goo.gl/AvPjNot1AeamK3BF6
