How We Met

9.18.2021

Despite their families sharing many of the same circles growing up, Cody & Emmy didn't truly take notice of each other until two years ago when... *sigh* ... Facebook brought them together. Get your laughter out now, because the rest of their story reads like a fairytale! Okay... where to begin? Well, their first date lasted 11 hours. They kept extending it to be with each other just a little bit longer. At the end of the first date, Cody told Emmy that he “knew it was early to say this,” but he “really liked her a lot and wanted to continue getting to know her." She cried… at which point Cody figured he had either done a really good job or a really bad job dating this very pretty woman. His fears were soon assuaged while on their second date when Emily loaned him a 464 page novel which was her "favorite book." Cody realized that she must have wanted to stay in touch because he was notoriously slow when it came to finding time to read large novels. On their third date, they shared their first kiss on the levee of the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge and thus began the most wonderful relationship of their lives. Cody still hasn’t found time to read the novel Emmy loaned him, which still sits on his bookshelf, thus ensuring the future of their relationship stretches into eternity.

The Proposal

9.18.23

A question that Cody thought about from the time of childhood was “where will I eventually propose when I find the woman of my dreams?” Though he had almost 30 years to think about it… and had now found his dream woman in Emmy… he somehow still had absolutely NO ideas about where to propose. And thus began a long and arduous process of realizing that every single location he could think of fell radically short of how glorious Emily truly was, and thus was not worthy of being “the place”. After considering levees & rivers, jazz cruises & coffee shops, mountains, buildings & botanical gardens… he FINALLY decided to propose on a private yacht, during golden hour, on the two year anniversary of their first date! There was champaign & wine, there was a custom playlist of big band romantic music, there was petit fours, there was a beautiful custom made ring, and the whole thing was kept a complete secret from Emmy. The couple boarded the boat as boyfriend and girlfriend and left the boat as a happily engaged couple. When the cruise began, they simply enjoyed the boat ride and refreshments. The sky and water were the exact same shade of clear blue, and a slight haze hid the horizon line, making it appear that the happy couple was sailing into an unbroken realm of heavenly blue. As the sun began to set, Cody handed a camera to the captain who cued the song “Unforgettable” by Nat King Cole. Cody walked over to Emmy and put his arm around her. He told her that he knew she was special from the very first moment he saw her, and that while dating, it had become clear that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. He got down on one knee and asked if she would become his wife. As the sun set over Lake Pontchartrain, Emmy said “yes!” That evening will always be remembered as the happiest of evenings by Cody & Emmy who are now enjoying life as the future Mr. & Mrs. Dedon.
