How we met

5/29/18: From Sweet Beginnings to Forever After

Our story began in the most unexpected way—over a plate of cookies in high school. I (Sara) had just been transferred into Clayton's English/History class, and one day, I brought in a batch of homemade cookies. Clayton kept coming back for more, which made me smile because baking has always been one of my passions. That very night, I found Clayton on Instagram and decided to connect. I sent him a message, letting him know I’d bring more of those cookies he liked so much the next day—this time just for him. That simple exchange sparked a conversation, and soon we were chatting regularly. We started going on dates, and it quickly became clear that our connection was something special. What began with a shared love of cookies turned into a beautiful journey of love, laughter, and companionship. Now, we're ready to continue our story, side by side, as husband and wife.

Our proposal

7/27/2024: A Perfectly Imperfect Proposal

On July 27th, 2023, Clayton pulled off a proposal that was perfectly us—full of love, laughter, and a few unexpected twists. The day began with a hair appointment, but not just any appointment—this one was with my close friend Destiny. She had been learning to style hair for a while, and by then, I trusted only her with mine. Little did I know, she was in on the whole plan. After my hair was done, Destiny came back to my apartment to help with my makeup. I had a feeling something special was about to happen, but with a date on the schedule, I couldn’t be sure. As she carefully applied each detail, I realized how much I appreciated her being there, knowing what was to come. Clayton picked me up for our date, and we headed to what he had promised was a great Italian restaurant. However, it turned out to be less than stellar—more like a comedy of errors than a romantic dinner. But instead of letting it ruin the mood, we laughed it off, turning it into one of those memories we'd always look back on with a smile. The mishap only added to the charm of the day. After dinner, Clayton suggested a walk, and we made our way to Houston's iconic Waterwall. It was a popular spot, with a small crowd of people taking in the sight and snapping pictures. As we walked through the mist and sounds of the water, I felt a sense of anticipation growing. In the center of it all, Clayton suddenly stopped, and before I knew it, he was down on one knee. The world seemed to pause as he asked me to marry him, right there in front of everyone. What made the moment even more special was knowing that some of our closest friends were hiding nearby, capturing the moment on camera and witnessing our joy. The Waterwall, with its grandeur and beauty, became the backdrop to the beginning of our forever. It wasn't just the perfect location; it was the perfect moment—a mix of spontaneity, love, and a dash of humor that made it uniquely ours. As I said yes, surrounded by the cheers of strangers and the quiet support of friends, I knew that this day would be one of our most cherished memories. It was the day we took the next step in our journey together, one that we're now excited to share with all of you as we prepare to say "I do."
