Clayton: One day as I was scrolling through Mutual, I saw a girl who liked me that made me stop. She was so beautiful it stopped me in my tracks. I honestly did not believe that she was real. I thought it was a dude who created a fake account to exploit other dudes. I figured, what the heck, I know how to sniff out a sketchy situation so I’ll send it. I saw that she was from Georgia and Dylan had recently moved to Georgia so I had a talking point. I asked her what part of Georgia she was from. Maybe three days later she responded and told me that she was from Columbus. I was so excited and I told her that my brother was a ranger stationed there. We started a little conversation. I gave up hope on mutual, so I gave her my phone number and deleted the app. I did not expect her to text me by any means because I didn’t think that she was that interested in me. A week later she texted me on the phone. I was so excited and confused that she actually texted me. I texted her for about a week, and I decided to come up to the cabin and try to set up a date with her. I texted her and she said yes!! Bri: Through skeptic eyes I skimmed Mutual for potential suitors. It was rare for me to talk to anyone on there, much less match with someone that I found genuinely intriguing. That changed drastically when I matched with Clayton. He was so handsome! I remember waiting for him to message me and being so nervous about what to say, and if I should say something first. I finally resolved my inner conflict to allow him to chase after me a bit and message me first. The nerves soon subsided when he finally messaged me. The infatuation increased to interest when we shared so many commonalities right off the bat. His brother was in Ranger School at Ft. Benning, where my dad had been stationed and my family lived for over 15 years. The familiarity allowed me to attach to him that much quicker when he talked about visiting Columbus, my home town. Once our conversation started I would get so excited anytime my phone buzzed, hoping that it was him messaging me back. I would love looking at his profile pictures over and over again just in awe. Through my infrequency of being on the dating app, Clayton decided to delete it but left me with his number as a means to further communication with each other. A few days later I checked and saw his number and texted him immediately! We continued our conversation and shortly after Clayton told that he would be coming up to Provo for the weekend. He asked if I would be interested in going on a date with him. The wording of the questions made it seem like he was coming up for the weekend to hang out with his friend anyways and was trying to find someone to hang out with while he was visiting. I accepted the invitation to go on a double date that Friday night. As we continued to text he asked what things there were to do up in the area. I gave him a list of fun activities to do in Provo. As he continued to push on what I wanted to do, my sassy side came out, and I told him that I gave him a bunch of ideas and it was his job with his friend to plan the actual date. Eventually he let it slip that he was making the 3 and a half hour drive solely to take me on this date. This made me so nervous but also thrilled!
