Chris and Margaret have known one another Margaret’s entire life. Chris’s sister Lindsey and Margaret’s sister Kelly were in the same kindergarten class and that is where they officially met but of course neither remember this. Margaret’s babysitter was Chris’s next door neighbor, they lived in the same neighborhood growing up so Margaret’s mom would take the kids to school and sincere they were the youngest siblings between their sisters, they were forced to play with each other. When the Smyth’s moved from Irvington, Margaret lost contact with Chris but kept up with his sisters and mom through social media. In 2017, Margaret was swiping through tinder and saw Chris’s profile and thought to herself “I haven’t talked to him in forever, let’s see what happens.” Well, 6 years later, here they are.

Let’s just start off by saying, Chris started the day off by lying to Margaret. Let’s back up a moment. In the spring of 2021, Chris asked Margaret’s parents for their blessing to marry Margaret. Of course they said yes because it it’s a well known fact that Margaret’s mom’s favorite out of the two of them is Chris and has gone on the record to say that if they were to separate, they would choose Chris. Carole’s next question was of course when the proposal was to taking place and to her dismay Chris said October. He choose October because it is Margaret’s favorite month, her favorite holiday is Halloween, their dog Lily was born in October, so all around the best time of year. That meant that Carole had to act like she knew nothing for 7 months. Margaret’s sister Kelly got married in September of 2021 and during the reception, Carole and Chris went around behind Margaret’s back telling all of her family that Chris was planning on proposing to her in the next month and Margaret was none the wiser. Okay, now that you have the back story, on the morning of October 16th 2021, Chris lied to Margaret about his plans for the day stating that he had to go to his dads house to help him with a project at their house. Margaret thought nothing of it and spent her Saturday morning going to Costco. Chris suggested going to Tuttles orchard since Margaret had been begging to go to a pumpkin patch for weeks. Multiple times throughout that afternoon, Margaret hinted to the fact that the weather that day was perfect for a wedding, how she hoped that whenever they get married, the day was as pretty as that day. Chris of course laughed to himself thinking about how that day would be even more memorable later that evening. Since it was a day of “saying yes to everything Margaret wants to do” as Chris would call it, she begged to go and watch her cousin Cameron play hockey as she hadn’t seen him play in years. During the game, Chris was talking to Margaret’s family at the game about his plans for the evening. Again, Margaret had no clue what was going on. After a long and eventful day, Chris and Margaret went home and Chris suggested having a fire in their back yard as it is one of their favorite things to do together. Not thinking that anything was going to happen other than their standard, read and watch Lily attempt to eat the embers coming from the fire, Margaret put on a comfy pair of sweats and a hoodie and went outside. Chris had set up his GoPro but Margaret caught him videoing and thought it was weird since nothing exciting was happening and asked him about it. Again Chris lied and said that he was just checking the audio quality or something of that sort. At that point, Chris takes Margaret’s phone out of her hand, gets down on one knee and pulls out a ring box. Margaret didn’t register what was happening and thought he was joking until he started calling her every nickname she has and everything clicked in her head that this man who takes almost nothing seriously, was very serious in that moment. Instead of crying like Margaret thought she would do because she cries at the drop of a hat, Margaret laughed the entire time Chris proposed because she could not contain her happiness. Chris being the smart man he is, did not propose with a ring because Margaret is a very particular person and likes to do things herself. (Some say she has control issues but that’s okay.) Instead of proposing with a ring like you would traditionally, Chris proposed with a handmade ring box that his dear friend and groomsman Kiefer made. Well of course Margaret said yes because you’re here on their wedding website. After Margaret settled down from the excitement and the Adrenalin was going away, she called everyone! That night, Margaret watched the proposal that chris recorded about 20 times crying each time because she actually got to hear every sweet thing he said to her in that moment. It was to date, on of their best days.
