We said “I Do”!

It was October 4th of 2013, opening day at Prudential Center! The Devils had just suffered a devastating Game 6 loss in last year’s Stanley Cup Finals, and fans were eager to see what the team had in store. Typically, Doug would be sat at his favorite bar The Cottage with a Guinness in hand, watching the game with the boys. But today was different! On a whim, they scored lower bowl tickets and made the trek down to Newark for a rare behind-the-net treat. As is tradition, Christine and her dad had appetizers at Fornos, and watched the first game of the year from their seats in Section 12. In what would be the start of an unfortunate streak of bad luck that would last a decade, the Devils lost. In the hustle and bustle of a departing crowd, Christine caught Doug’s eye. But alas, a few days prior Doug was victim of an awful haircut. There was no way he would approach her. But by a twist of fate, they walked down the hall beside each other - with Christine on his good side! “Hey” “Hey!” Few words were said, numbers were exchanged, and a date was set for the following week. They met for drinks on a weekday in the middle of Christine’s food delivery shift, letting Doug know she may need to leave if her Thai people call her (worlds greatest excuse?). The two had a lot in common. They shared a love for hockey, the outdoors, napping, and best of all- rollerblading! Christine loved his smile and cool, calm, collectedness. Doug loved her openness and enthusiasm. The Thai people called and Christine made an abrupt exit. Doug picked up the tab, pleasantly surprised; bars don’t charge for seltzer. They’ve been inseparable ever since.
