If you’re looking for an epically romantic tale, stop right here and keep on scrolling down to the proposal. We met on Tinder...so, while the story of how we met is not 'love at first sight' or a 'meet-cute', it was an adventure of sorts to put ourselves out there and go meet a stranger at Hilltop. And, Aaron and I haven't stopped adventuring since! About 3 weeks after we met, he asked me if I wanted to go to the Mardi Gras parade in St. Louis. I immediately thought, 'No way, too soon.' But, I’d already eliminated the possibility of him being a serial killer…so, I figured what do I have to lose? I said yes and he said ‘Oh, I wasn’t planning on actually going. I just wanted to know what you’d say to that crazy request.’ Insert frustration + expletives here. While we did not go to the Mardi Gras parade in St. Louis (still on the 1239823 mile-long bucket list) we discovered that we were both adventurous, kindred spirits. Read on for the romantic tale you’ve been waiting for…
Like I said, Aaron and I travel; that's what we do. In 2018, we found a cheap flight across the pond and began planning our 2018 EuroTrip to Italy. Booked hotels and trains. Next, we started looking at fun stuff to do! We stumbled upon a photo shoot in Venice and were intrigued (we’d never done a freaking photo shoot before!)...booked! As the trip got closer, my friends and family kept asking me, ‘Is he going to propose?’ I said no, because we’d already talked about it. He said it wasn’t the right time, simply didn’t have the money. My response was ‘I hear you, just know it’s not about the money; you could propose to me with a twisty tie and I’d say yes. We have the rest of our lives to figure out nice jewelry.’ *Remember this part* I left that conversation knowing that we were on the same page and marriage would come, just didn’t know when. We had a heck of a time getting to Italy – 26 hours, including missed flights, ripped pants, and the London tube shutting down. We finally made it and were completely charmed by our hotel, breakfast on the canal, and the winding alleyways. Beautiful day!! In the afternoon, we met our photographer, Stefano, and proceeded to explore one of the most magical cities we'd ever been in! Near the end, he takes us to a quiet plaza. Aaron proceeds to get down on one knee, he pulled out a box and opened the box. I was so stunned, I didn’t even think to look inside the box. Once I finally did, it was a twisty tie fashioned into a circle. *swoon* He had the ring at home (practical son of a gun) – it was my great grandmother’s. I spent the next 8 minutes processing that everyone (Literally everyone, even Stefano!) knew about this but me. That night, we celebrated by drinking copious amounts of wine, eating great seafood on the canal, and ending the night at quiet rooftop bar. We're so excited to celebrate with you. See you in Louisville!
