Jake and Christi met during high school in 2017. Although they were at different high schools, they enrolled in the same audio/video production class at a separate campus that all BISD high school students could attend. Throughout their sophomore year, there was flirting back and forth but nothing evolved from it. Junior year came along, and they were in the same class, but second-year students. Finally, the two confessed their feelings and began hanging out as more than friends. Their dating relationship began and ended junior year due to... well, to say it simply, they were stupid which caused them to never talk to each other again... or so they thought. Jake attended a different school his senior year, so the two didn't have classes together, nor did they see each other. Early 2020 rolled around and they reconnected via Instagram. Gradually and with caution, they began talking again. It transitioned from strict friends testing the waters to a committed relationship rather quickly. A couple of months after becoming official, Jake was sent off to Navy boot camp in Illinois. This was the start of their nearly 3-year long-distance relationship. With only seeing each other every 3-6 months, Jake and Christi dedicated their evenings to video calls and constant communication. On January 3, 2023, Jake asked Christi to marry him - and she said yes!
