At 7:32 am, on the beaches of Gulf Shore, AL, Christian felt the luck of the Irish and asked Amy to make him the luckiest man in the world. She obliged, knowing indeed she was the lucky one. Now, the whole story is a bit funnier than that (in true Hempen fashion)! It was Amy's first Hempen Family Vacation, and Amy's sister, Christy, also joined in on the fun (and helping Christian plan the proposal)! After a 16 hour car drive, and a few days of vacationing in Gulf Shores, AL, Christy convinced Amy to get up early on St. Patrick's Day (completely coincidental) so that Amy and Christy could take a beautiful beach sunrise picture, and who better to take that picture than Christian. So, Amy, Christy, and Christian, went for a walk down the beach to find the perfect picture spot. Meanwhile, the night before Mark and Laurie went to get "aloe" from the store because everyone indeed had to much fun in the sun, but they also were on the hunt for roses! So, while the trio took a walk up the beach, Mark put roses in the shape of a heart on the beach right in front of the condo, so the family could watch the proposal! Amy and Christy did indeed find the perfect photo op, and after they started to walk back towards the condo. Christy took off walking at the speed of light so she could video the whole thing. Meanwhile, Amy (who is entirely clueless) is giving Christian a bit of a "talking to" because before the trip Christian told her he wouldn't propose on vacation, and Amy couldn't get over how beautiful it was and it was indeed the perfect opportunity, and how could he miss it! Christian is trying not to laugh and hold it together during this "talking to", knowing what is about to come. They are almost to the condo, when Christian grabs Amy by the hand, turns her around, and there is the heart of roses. Amy was utterly surprised, and full of tears and joy. Christian proposed, the family watched, and the whole condo applauded. What a memory.
