Mr. Champion and Ms. Fludd met in downtown Gainesville, FL (specifically Cry Baby's Bar) on a random night through a mutual friend, Chris Reid in 2020. Once they both found out that they were both from Miami, they hit it off and shared drinks and pizza. The next date, Chris pulled out all of the stops and cooked a fun date night meal to get to know one another. The taco night was a hit and the pair have not separated since.

Chris started planning the proposal 6 months before it happened. With the assistance of Ruelle's friends and family, he was able to capture the right look for the engagement ring. Once the ring was finished, the hard part was not letting her find it. After hiding the ring for a month, the time was right. Chris and Ruelle went to downtown Gainesville (where they met) had an amazing brunch and took a walk after. Chris led Ruelle back to Cry Baby's Bar, got on one knee, and proposed.
