Laurel and Chris met for the first time on their first date at Union Oyster House. Finding Chris to be a perfect gentleman, within a few months Laurel had agreed to tag along on a trip to Colorado (with no idea what she was getting herself into). After a year of long-distance dating between New York and Boston, Laurel took the plunge and moved further north, leaving her job in NYC to return to continue pursuing her dream of becoming an architect (and being closer to this man who had stolen her heart).

On Chris's parents 40th anniversary, while vacationing with both their families, Chris proposed to Laurel completely unexpectedly. He called his brother, Piotr, shortly before arriving at the vacation house to give him a heads up, and after concocting an urgent, outlandish, and dramatic story he suggested Laurel go for a walk with him so he could give her more details.
