Chris and Ashley met in Houston as first year optometry students in 2018. Halfway through their first year, a group of classmates coordinated a fun weekend trip to Austin. This was the first time they had spent time with each other outside of the classroom. Chris had spent the previous 7 years in Austin, so he loved getting to be a tourist again in "his city" and helped the group navigate different points of interest throughout the weekend. They ended up beside each other in a drinking game before a night out on 6th street with their friends. That weekend kindled the spark of their relationship.
For their first date, Chris asked Ashley on a night ride on his motorcycle around Houston. Their first stop was to view the Skyspace art installation on the Rice campus. Afterwards they viewed the Houston skyline on top of a parking garage. They ended the night with dinner at Velvet Taco. To this day, they still enjoy going on motorcycle rides together through the mountains in Salt Lake City.
After graduating optometry school in 2021 from Houston, Chris and Ashley decided they wanted a change of scenery after spending the most recent year stuck inside due to COVID. They shared a love for the outdoors and had both grown up enjoying skiing when they were younger. The mountains were calling to them and they decided to make the big move to Salt Lake City, Utah. Chris and Ashley have lived in Utah for two years now. They've experienced many adventures hiking, backpacking, skiing / snowboarding, mountain biking etc.
In September of 2022, Chris and Ashley went on vacation to Tulum, Mexico with some of their closest friends. They had been together for four years at this point. After months of scheming with Ashley's best friends, Chris planned to propose on this trip. They had spent the trip snorkeling in cenotes, exploring historical ruins and partying at beach clubs. One night Chris had a surprise waiting for Ashley on the beach. As the sun was setting, they walked over to a beautiful setup with flowers and candles. As Chris knelt down before Ashley, he knocked over the candles behind him where he luckily managed not to set the beach on fire. He then popped the question and the rest is history! It was the perfect proposal.
