Emerald Bay State Park Lookout
Gorgeous, unique drive to one of the most photographed place in Lake Tahoe. It holds the only island in Lake Tahoe, Fannette Island. Features a 38 room mansion. Eagle falls hike just across the road.
Cave Rock Trail Head
One of my favorite quick hikes to get the best view of the lake! Climb up to the top of the rock. 0.8 mile out and back. 137ft elevation game (roughly 22-25min hike)
Monkey Rock
2.6 mile out and back, 498ft elevation gain. Roughly takes an hour and 16 minutes for most. One of my other FAVORITE views of the lake that is fairly easy access!
Heavenly Gondola
Gondola takes you up to the Top of Heavenly Ski resort. Up top there is a restaurant, rope course and toboggan ride. There are cheaper places to park. The Heavenly Village Parking Garage is much cheaper. (just kiddy corner of Gondola Parking)
Mt. Tallac Trailhead
For the adventurist that wants to summit one of the taller, most known peaks in the Tahoe Basin. Reaching 9,735ft in elevation and a full view of the lake and basin. 10.5 miles out and back, 3,274ft elevation gain. average time 6h 28m per AllTrails but time will vary. Better to start early for heat/daylight reasons. Desolation Day permits recommended, however I have never purchased one if we are being honest. Make Sure you have water
Donner Train Tunnels
1 hour 17-25 minute drive north west of South Lake Tahoe, but you will not be disappointed with the beauty of this drive, views of Donner Lake and hiking these abandoned tunnels. 2.9 Mile hike out and back, 393ft elevation gain, just over an hour hike (we always take more time because of exploring, pictures and taking in the artwork). depending on your driving route you can see Emerald Bay or Cave Rock on the way.
