Fox and Cat

A love story

Once upon a time, there was a handsome silver fox and a gorgeous ginger cat. The fox was a struggling entrepreneur and the cat was eternally searching for creative outlets. The fox and the cat met while working at a beastly tavern ruled by an evil platypus chef. The chef would make outrageous claims, like “I'm a reality cooking star” or “I know how to run a business." It was while working together under this regime that the fox and the cat found solidarity. The fox liked the cat and the cat liked to push the fox over into the snow. The snow was soft so that the fox didn’t mind it so much. All he cared about was that the cat was paying attention to him. One winter’s day, on her birthday, the cat told the fox that they should totally make out sometime. The fox agreed that they should totally make out sometime and a few hours later they totally made out in the back room of the beastly tavern. “I thought you only liked cats,” said the fox. “I also like foxes,” replied the cat. The fox was cool with that. The fox and cat kept each other warm for much of that winter until the cat decided that she was done totally making out with the fox and wanted to go back to totally making out with cats. This broke the fox’s heart, but he understood that cats are strange creatures, also, he was a fox, not a cat, so it made sense. Being a dramatic fox, he vowed to never love again. However, he did steal the cat’s line. He would go to the bars and the clubs and tell cute animals that they should totally make out sometime. Sadly, it did not work for him as well as it always did for the cat. The snow turned to slush, the slush to wet, the winter became spring and the fox and cat, bound by history and humor, rekindled their friendship when the cat came to the fox for consolation after another cat decided not to totally make out with her anymore. Life was good for the fox and the cat after their hearts had healed, and the fox was happy the cat was paying attention to him again, even if it wasn’t in the totally making out way. Years passed and while both remained unsuccessful in romantic relationships, their friendship bloomed. They traveled to far and exotic places like Coney Island, Connecticut and Asbury Park. Creativity abounded. They told stories, wrote, and created alter egos like Ham and Clam. The cat also liked to yell at the fox, usually about nothing in particular. And because it was about nothing in particular, the fox liked it because she was paying more attention to him than any other animal. However, over the years, the fox found himself jealous of the cat’s other friends--the other Fox, the Lemur, and the Orangutan--were they totally making out, wondered the fox? The cat found it humorous because 99 percent of the time she was not totally making out with them. One day the Cat decided to go to an even more exotic place than Asbury Park to learn how to be a better communi-cat-or. She flew away to the far-off land of Costa Rica, not realizing that she would be trapped in a jungle for three months. Upon hearing her plight, the fox realized he had to rescue her from humidity, insomnia and isolation. The fox boarded an eagle and flew to the far-off land. It was there, sipping margaritas and watching sunsets, that nothing happened. It took years of close friendship, intense creativity and bizarre travel for the fox to finally realize something. He was in love with the cat and he didn’t know how to tell her. So, he did what he did best and wrote the cat a note explaining his feelings. Upon reading the note she expressed that she had feelings too. The two debated what to do about these feelings until… they totally made out again.
