It was Austin's first day back in the US after his tour in Iraq and what better things to do than hang out with his friends and jump right into...you guessed it...a dating app. By this time, Chi Ab was living it up in Nashville and figured maybe it was time to hit the dating scene after being newly single. She also jumped on the dating app game. As a "old maid" as we call it in the Hmong culture, Chi Ab had no idea how to use the dating app. She was just playing around with it, just swiping away until she stumble upon an interesting fellow. His profile read that he was local to Minneapolis/St. Paul though he was only 60+ miles away from Chi Ab (remember, she doesn't know how to use the app). As she went through his profile, admiring his fun pictures, she actually swiped left accidentally (not interested in him). Luckily, she had added his snapchat to her friends list before doing so (he barely made the cut). If fate may have it, Austin ended up adding Chi Ab back as a friend and they started a discussion over a picture of bitter melon with pork belly. They spent a whole day texting back and forth about food (because we're foodies!), life, and our Hmong culture (he thought I was Filipino, ya girl was blonde and tan). It was crazy to the both of them that they had met a Hmong person in Tennessee...and from there the love story began.

After Austin had bought the ring, he was waiting for its arrival and kept an active eye on where the ring was during its delivery. He could not afford for Chi Ab to find out that the ring is on its way. While Austin was washing some dishes, he heard a knock at the door and saw that it was the mailman. The ring had arrived! The mailman handed him "the package" and thankfully Chi Ab did not hear the mailman knocking on the door and Austin ran to the bedroom and stashed the ring. Now Chi Ab and Austin are in Minnesota and the day before the proposal, Austin goes paintballing with his cousins and friends. On proposal day, Austin wakes up and he is having a hard time getting out of bed due to being too sore from playing paintball. Everyone (Austin's family, Austin, and Chi Ab) gets ready for the day and go take family photos. While taking photos, Austin is looking at where the perfect spot would be to propose. All weekend Chi Ab thought that Austin was going to propose but the weekend was gone, and the photoshoot was almost over, she had lost all hope for a proposal. Austin already three steps ahead of Chi Ab, he knew he had to wait and propose to Chi Ab when she least expected it. As the two were posing for photos, Austin took a step back while Chi Ab was trying to figure out what the next pose was. As she turned around, Austin was on one knee. Keep in mind that Austin is still really sore from the day before, as he goes down Austin almost falls over from being so nervous and so sore. Chi Ab laughed and said yes.
