We knew of each other back in our high school days but never thought anything of it. Nik and Cory worked out at Clyde Health and Fitness almost every day, as did Cheyenne. She couldn't stand them. Well, she finally went off to college. Her freshman year was off to a good start, enjoying the dorm life, making new friends, trying out new clubs. Until one night, she ran into both of them on a sidewalk in the middle of the night. Both of them drunk, Cory yells in Cheyenne's face, "that's the hot girl from the gym!" Nik, easily annoyed and angered, grabs Cory and storms off. Cheyenne, disgusted, forgets about it and enjoys the rest of her night. Cheyenne eventually graduated from BGSU, as did Nik, and returned back to Bellevue. Again, back to their old gyms. Cheyenne had to see both of them, unfortunately, again. Well, one night, she decided to bench press alone. However, she was a bit nervous and needed a spotter. She had the choice of some high school boys, or Nik, who was sitting alone by himself. She picked Nik. As she approached him, he glimpsed at his phone and back to her several times not knowing what was happening. She asked, "hey, would you mind spotting me?" "Sure," said Nik. After that, they both went their separate ways. Curious, Cheyenne scrolled through Facebook remembering he popped up on "people you may know." For whatever reason, she clicked, "friend request." She thought to herself, "Maybe this guy isn't as annoying as I thought he was." He accepted immediately. Some moments passed by and she decided to him a thank you text. "Hey, thanks for helping me earlier. I definitely didn't want those kids spotting me." He laughed and the conversation blossomed from there. After years of knowing each other, but never speaking, this is how we truly met.
We decided we needed a small vacation to Hocking Hills. Get away from the city, enjoy nature, hike, and have a campfire. Before our last day, we decided on our longest hiking trip yet. This trail was very brutal and steep. The temperature was high and the sun was directly on us. We finally made it near a rock that had to be climbed through. He went first making sure it took us in the right direction. He yelled, "It's good!" I went through the small crevice, slowly inching my way through what felt like a tiny cave. As I came around the corner, there he was on the edge of the cliff, one knee down. We were so exhausted, I couldn't tell if he was tired or proposing! So we stood there in silence. He smiled and finally popped the question. After we wiped all of our sweat off, caught our breath, and shared a laugh, he put the ring on my finger, kissed me, and we finally became engaged.
