We met on Labor Day 2020 at a mutual friend's BBQ. While at the BBQ, we connected over the city of Draper (Chella's hometown and where Gabe's Grandma was mayor), the craziness of the pandemic, and (like any good nerds) Harry Potter. There was an instant connection. We talked for a solid half-hour at the BBQ while friends hovered around, eavesdropping on the conversation and stealthily taking pictures of the two of us. However, to truly appreciate the magic of the moment, you need some background. A month earlier, Gabe had met Spencer Hoffman (our mutual friend), who thought Gabe and Chella would make a good couple. Instead of giving Gabe Chella's number, Spencer explained to Gabe that he would invite both of them to his Labor Day BBQ, and they could meet there and see if sparks would fly. The night before the BBQ at a friend's house, in front of many people, Spencer announced that the plan had worked and Chella would be at the party. Gabe remembers parking his car at the outdoor party seeing Chella (he'd checked out her Facebook, so he had an idea), and immediately feeling butterflies. Gabe initially sat by friends and not Chella to "scope out the situation." Practically everyone at the BBQ except Chella knew that Gabe and Chella were supposed to meet there, and so everyone kept saying to Gabe, "go over there and sit by her!" Finally, he did. And the rest is history.
