I was playing with my team in Austin. I came back to the locker room during half-time and checked my phone. I had a text from Susie Renee (my mother) with a picture of her and some random man that read "I've found your husband". Unfortunately for her, I had finally gotten comfortable with my perpetual single existence and quickly rebuked that in the name of Jesus and returned to my game. After the game, my mother called me to ask if she could give this man my number. "Na, I'm good. Tell him to hit me on FB." Well, he never "hit me on FB". I started to get curious...or bored....or both. So I found HIM on FB and sent him a message. I asked him what sort of things he was into, what were his hobbies, what kind of movies he liked? Surprisingly, we had a lot in common. So I gave him my number and told him "don't be a stranger". I didn't hear from him again. I was oh too happy to tell my mother her prospect had failed. Of course she didn't want to admit defeat so she set up a party at her house for Memorial day, when I was coming into town and invited him. But like any trip to Phoenix, my only plans were to go out with my cousins!!!! That Saturday morning, I got the idea to invite this random man out with us. I told my mother to tell the young fella that we were going out that night and he was welcome to join us. I didn't hear from him all day and thought, "Aw well. My part is done". I was walking around Wal-Mart talking on the phone with my best friend before it was time to go out. I had just told her, mockingly, "haven't heard from my mom's guy friend", when a text came through my phone saying "This is Geoffrey. I got your message and I would love to join you tonight." ...oh. When I got to the venue, I saw a very tall man leaning against the bar. I walked over and introduced myself. We hit it off instantly. We had drinks, We joked, we laughed. We fit. *Enter The Rest Of My Life Here*
I went to a wedding of a mutual friend of ours. While I was there, her mother and my mother were catching up. They ended up talking about how I was single. Her mother mentioned she had a single daughter that I should meet. She gave me her number at the wedding. A few days later, we started texting for a bit. I stopped texting cause, well, I'm not at all good at keeping up with text. Finally, I got a message one night saying she was in town and going out with her friends and asking if I wanted to come. I got cleaned up and threw on some clothes and met her at a bar in downtown Phoenix. While I was waiting at the bar, I saw a woman come in and I thought to myself, "Wow, she is beautiful". That beautiful woman walked up to me and said "Are you Geoffrey?" After we got the introductions out, we ordered some drinks and started talking. We stayed out all night and had a great time. After that night..... I consistently texted. Making the decision to go out that night was a blessing and a life defining decision that brought me love and happiness. *Long Story Short: I Came, I Saw, I Conquered (She Said Yes!)*
