We initially met online and were talking anonymously (no names, or anything), for a couple of months. My birthday was coming up and he first offered to bring me a pizza. Me, following my mom's rules on "strangers on the internet," declined his offer and we kept talking anonymously. We were just friends at this point, as I was with someone else in a very rocky relationship. Ty helped me through lots of arguments, stressful situations, and hard feelings - without knowing anything about me. A couple of months later, on July 6th, 2017, we met in person for the first time. My backpack was broken and Tyler painstakingly tried to fix it for me. Then, we got pizza and watched a movie, while I vented about things at home. We remained friends throughout the breakup and for several months after that. He was my rock during that time and he was always a gentleman.
After a couple of months at "shooting my shot," Tyler asked me out on our first date. We went to a restaurant called Someplace Else and then we went to a park nearby and walked. Before and during our dating relationship, we went out to bars with friends, played lots of billiards, and took lots of walks. We loved going to the beach near Tyler's apartment and walking in the sand.
I had always thought that I would know when Tyler was going to propose, but I had absolutely NO idea that night. We were going to visit his sister, Kendra, and her boyfriend, John, up in Wisconsin for Memorial Day weekend. It was a Friday night and the plan was to meet them for dinner before going to their place. We got to the restaurant (Three Guys & A Grill) and couldn't find John's truck in the parking lot. This restaurant is in a park-type thing and was right next to the Sheboygan Marsh observation tower - which is 144 steps up to the top. Tyler suggested we check the tower for Kendra and John. At this point, after a long day of work and a long drive, I was very hangry and tired, so I really had no interest in going to this tower. We drove over and found their truck, turns out that they were already at the top. Tyler suggested we climb it so we could see the sunset. Yep, I still had no idea at this point! We climbed the tower and Kendra was there taking pictures - which is not unusual! The next things are pretty foggy. Really, all I remember is Tyler telling me he had a question for me, then getting down on his knee and asking me if I would marry him. Because I know that someone will mention this at the wedding, my initial response was, "yes, maybe." Completely awful, I know. But, of course, my answer was "yes!" I had been waiting for that moment for so long. It was definitely the best night in our lives so far.
