After both returning home to Danville from college during the summer of 2015, John and I were formally introduced to each other by our friends. What we both didn’t realize was that we had met in passing a few times before and had lived only 10 minutes away from each other during high school. A lot of hopeful texts were exchanged (and ignored) during those first weeks of summer, hoping we would be attending the same party or that our paths would cross at one of downtown Danville’s famous dive bars. After a few beers at Elliotts and occasional run-ins on the dance floor at Meenar, seeing each other became a lot less coincidental. John and I then spent a weekend in August running around the Outside Lands music festival in San Francisco together, where John asked me out on our first official date. I tried to play it cool but I’m sure my excitement was completely obvious. The evening took place on John's family’s boat in the San Francisco Bay where he took us out for a sunset cocktail cruise followed by a homemade candle lit dinner (very impressive chef skills too). Even though no date could ever beat the first, the summer of 2015 led John and I on to many more amazing adventures; traveling the world together and ultimately landing us in Golden, CO. We can’t wait to celebrate the greatest one yet with you!
On October 8th, 2020 Catherine and I had planned to meet up for a hike at the top of Mt. Rose highway to celebrate our 5 year anniversary of dating. During COVID we each lived separately at our parent’s houses and this was one of our favorite hikes, right in the middle of Lake Tahoe and Reno. The plan (as Catherine knew it) was to hike and then go to dinner...little did Catherine know those plans would change! As we hiked up the hill catching up on the events of the day and week, I could not only feel the physical weight of the champagne bottle hidden in my backpack but also the weight of the lump in my throat as I rehearsed what to say when I popped the question at the top of the mountain. As we made it to the summit, with no one else in sight overlooking Lake Tahoe, I dropped to a knee, took out the ring and asked Catherine to spend her life with me (terribly butchering everything I had rehearsed). With an enthusiastic "Yes!" from Catherine, we embraced, popped the champagne, then hooted & hollered to the mountains. Catherine almost fell 10 times on the hike back to the car because she couldn't stop looking at the ring (also probably because of the champagne). On the way (to what Catherine thought was still a dinner reservation) we stopped by her family's house to share the exciting news. When we walked in, both of our families were waiting to celebrate as we cheersed to the next chapter of our lives together!
